Official: Tommaso Pobega joins Bologna on loan with option to buy deal

By Oliver Fisher -

Bologna have today confirmed the signing of Tommaso Pobega, who will join them on an initial loan deal from AC Milan.

On their official website, Bologna FC 1909 announced that they have acquired the sporting rights of midfielder Tommaso Pobega from AC Milan on a temporary basis until 30 June 2025, with the option for a permanent acquisition.

It is the latest in a long list of loan spells for Pobega, who worked with Vincenzo Italiano – the current Bologna boss – at Spezia in 2020-21, and he was the second-highest scorer for the team as they achieved survival.

The Italian then went to Ivan Juric’s Torino where he showed consistency and after a good run with the Italy Under 21 side, his first call-up to the senior national team came from Roberto Mancini. He made his debut for the Azzurri in June 2022 at the Dall’Ara, against Germany.

Pobega will also bring Champions League experience to Bologna who will have their first foray into the competition this season, given he has made 12 appearances in the competition for the Rossoneri, scoring one goal.

It has been reported that the option to buy figure in the deal is somewhere around €10-15m, which would be a pure capital gain for Milan given Pobega is an academy graduate.

  1. i don’t like this deal, for 10-15 it should be an outright or permanent deal.

bologna will come up with this, if they get knocked out in ucl and didn’t make it to one in 2025 which will probably happen as they are the underdogs. they claim is service is not needed and can’t afford is wage bill. then they ask for a europa league player RLC 😂

    1. Yes for some reason we have to outright buy players whereas other teams can take ours on loan and have the option to buy. I get when there’s a low release clause like Morata, just pay it. But seems strange we have to pay money up front with no guarantee of receiving money from sales.

      1. It’s a question of demand and supply, the player’s interest and the need of the teams regarding the said player. once a player is put on transfer psychologically reduces his value, creating the impression of unwanted and invites all sort ridiculous pricing and payment schedule. But where and when club is unwilling to sell or reluctantly yields to very pressing issues, there is always the likelihood of better, (even inflated,)value and prompt payment (and schedule if any is needed)

  2. They wouldn’t play €10 million for Saelemaekers, there’s no way they’re paying €10-15 for Pobega. He’s a €5 million player at best. Hopefully they’ve learned from the Thiaw disaster to take any reasonable offer for players that aren’t good enough to be in the first team.

  3. Not a great move for squad depth. We can’t really replace him as an over 23 academy trained spot.
Most likely his spot can only be filled by under 23 players.
