Opta: Four goals in the season opener – a first for Milan since 2010

Apart from a couple of mistakes, Stefano Pioli is surely very pleased with AC Milan’s first game of the season. The Rossoneri found the back of the net four times, which hasn’t happened since the Scudetto season in 2010.

Since it was the first game, and the temperature was quite high, not many were expecting fireworks from Milan. However, that’s exactly what we got to see, at least in attack as the Rossoneri really made life difficult for Udinese.

As highlighted by Opta, Milan haven’t scored four or more goals in a season-opening game since the 2010/11 campaign, when they beat Lecce 4-0. Although Pioli’s men have stuff to work on next week, it’s indeed a positive sign of what’s to come.

A fun fact is that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was greeted by the fans before that game, having just arrived from Barcelona. Just like yesterday, however, he wasn’t included in the match squad (expected back at the beginning of 2023).
