Rafael Leao is having his best season since joining AC Milan in terms of goal contributions, and the numbers show it.
The importance that Leao has in the Milan squad is almost immeasurable, with the Portuguese forward being the undisputed leader in terms of quality and decisiveness among the men coached by Stefano Pioli.
This year he had (and is having) his best season with the Rossoneri shirt too. As Opta report, Leao set a personal record for goal involvements in a single Serie A season with 21 (13 goals, 8 assists.
Before him, the last Milan player to have been involved in more than 20 goals in a single top flight was Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2011-12 (34).
It was perhaps obvious before that Leao is the main man for Milan now and for the future, but another important step will be taken when he renews his contract with the club, which could take place next week.
Every day Leao is renewing his new contract next week.
