Since the arrival of Stefano Pioli, Lucas Paqueta is receiving many more opportunities and has so far started in every match under the new coach, which is not expected to change against Lazio. The Brazilian midfielder spoke about the current moment at the club in an interview with Milan TV (via Milannews.it).
“The win against Spal was very important and it gives us the confidence to continue to do well and work hard. We did what the coach asked us to do. We need to improve and we want to do it already from the next match and bring another positive result home,” he said.
“What Pioli said before the match? He told us that often the games are decided by individual moments and if we didn’t win against Lecce, it was because of one moment. We knew that it would not be able to happen anymore and we tried to be concentrated to the maximum for the entire match, taking home the victory.
“Today we had a video session to see what we can improve, the right things we have done, always with the focus on the next game, the daily work, in order to improve for the good of Milan.”
Except for being more involved since Pioli’s arrival, the Brazilian attacking midfielder is also featuring in a slightly different role, as he has switched roles with Franck Kessie and is now playing on the right side of the midfield. The former Flamengo man also elaborated on this change and his preference in the interview.
“What changed after me moving to the right is that I have the ball on the inside, on my favourite foot and with Pioli I have more freedom. It gives me more courage to take risks, try different plays, look to assist my teammates or try to score goals.
“The defensive phase with Pioli? In the movements without the ball, you have to defend, run and help the team because if you want to have the ball you must first recover and this is what the coach wants from us.
“Theo Hernandez? He is a great player, a great professional, an exquisite guy who always tries to help his teammates and is playing really well, he is improving a lot and I am sure he will give us a great hand.”
The 22-year-old also spoke about the moment which the squad is going through now and about the upcoming matches coming up for the team, with the clash against Lazio at the San Siro scheduled for tomorrow evening and after that consecutive games against Juventus and Napoli to end the month of November.
“We must remain positive. We are working to win on Sunday. We must always try to win, whether we play with Spal or Lazio, we must always think positive and give our best.
“Winning always helps, morale grows and you work in a more serene environment, so we know that we must continue to win and we are working to bring home more positive results in the next matches,” Paqueta concluded.
