CM: Paratici rejects Spurs return for Milan – how negotiations with Furlani went

Fabio Paratici will be the new sporting director of AC Milan and he turned down another offer in order to join the club, as per a report.

As Calciomercato.com report, yesterday’s meeting in London with Giorgio Furlani had already laid the foundations for a full agreement, and today’s summit – also in the English capital – has reinforced the agreement.

The contours of it are not yet entirely clear, because among the issues that have accompanied the negotiation phase remain those relating to the definition of the entire staff. In particular, there may yet be the inclusion of figures who have already worked with the director in the past.

By extension, there is a question mark about the role of Geoffrey Moncada, the current technical director. A return to the role of chief scout was expected at the end of the current season, but Paratici’s historic collaborator Lorenzo Giani should become part of the new structure.

The other aspect on which the continuous contacts between Furlani and Paratici focus is the one relating to the Prisma investigation, which includes a preliminary hearing on Tuesday 15 April. His ban from the sporting case runs out on 20 July, but from a criminal perspective there is still the chance of further punishment.

Milan cannot afford to be caught unprepared in that scenario, which is why the respective lawyers are also participating in the definition of the agreement in all its forms. It is probable that exit clauses will be included to deal with any eventuality.

Paratici has therefore discarded the alternative proposal that had come from his last club before he began serving his suspension, namely Tottenham. The Italian – who arrived in England in the summer of 2021 – had resigned two years later.

In recent weeks, however, Spurs chief Daniel Levy had offered Paratici a new contract to continue his experience in the Premier League. The possibility of returning to Italy and Serie A and the call of Milan, however, prevailed over everything.

While waiting for the final details to be resolved, Paratici and Furlani agree on the need to focus on an Italian coach to replace Sergio Conceicao. At present, the names that filter out are Antonio Conte and Massimiliano Allegri.
