Pellegatti hails Ibrahimovic and brands Romagnoli a ‘€30-40m’ player in giving advice to Milan

Well-known journalist and AC Milan fan Carlo Pellegatti has urged the club to make wise assessments regarding the future of Alessio Romagnoli.

Pellegatti spoke about a number of different issues during an interview with MilanNews including Ibrahimovic’s performance, the Rossoneri’s campaign and the future of captain Alessio Romagnoli.

He began by talking about the Swede, who last week put pen to paper on a one-year extension that will see him stay at the club into his 40s.

“There are some people who don’t like Monet’s Water Lilies, others don’t like Degas’s Dancers or Jockeys: it’s a matter of taste, maybe they prefer Fontana’s Tagli. It’s a question of art, of taste. Me, over those who criticise Ibra – to whom I would give not 7 but 21 million euros, so let’s clarify immediately – I enjoyed it because I see football in him,” he said.

“He did something with Castillejo that I cannot describe despite having seen it. My luck is that I see Ibra minute by minute. Then another player exposed to the public mockery, Tomori, among the best in the field, another that there was uncertainty surrounding whether to keep him or not.

“We had ten to twelve chances against Sassuolo, who played hard but without going crazy, but against Benevento we had three. It is no coincidence that there is Ibra, who delighted us with his touches. Gentlemen, Ibrahimovic – maybe you have got it – I like him a little.”

The Benevento game he is referring to saw Milan put an end to a two-game losing streak, returning to winning ways with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Hakan Calhanoglu and Theo Hernandez.

Pellegatti revealed that he was convinced by the performance of Milan, but the team need to make better use of the opportunities.

“Certainly. Milan are superior to Benevento, just as they are superior to Sassuolo, Genoa, Sampdoria and Udinese. Against other teams he was unable to demonstrate this superiority. It went like in Cagliari: Ibrahimovic returns after a month. and he plays 90 minutes at the age of 40, a show. Someone didn’t like it, his problem, but I repeat: maybe someone doesn’t like Leonardo’s Mona Lisa.”

There is a huge game against Juventus on the horizon this coming weekend, one that could very well determine the fate of both sides with regards to the Champions League.

On that clash, Pellegatti added: “Milan have thrown away important points against beatable teams. They have to accomplish, I’m not saying a miracle, but a great feat. Meanwhile we have reached 69 points, but I go home with many regrets for not having had at least two or three more home games.”

Romagnoli also did well against Benevento, a player who has been in the firing line as a lack of playing time followed a difficult patch of form which saw him benched for Tomori.

“Remember one thing: when Milan no longer have Romagnoli, perhaps for reasons of contract or whatever you want, I won’t go into the merits, to go and get a quality defender with his left foot he will struggle and will have to spend 30-40 million, because you can’t find a player like that for 10-15 million.

“So I hope that, at least for a year, a solution can be found for Romagnoli, with him Milan have always conceded few goals. Tomori, Romagnoli, Kjaer and Gabbia are a important defense, Alessio made some mistakes, but he is another player that I keep very close.”
