Theo Hernandez of France

CorSport: ‘Physical and psychological tiredness’ – where is ‘the real Theo’?

In recent years, Theo Hernandez has been one of the better full-backs in the world, let alone Serie A, but he is struggling currently, and AC Milan need to find a solution.

When looking at Milan’s key players over the past 12 months, and beyond that, Theo is among the top. Perhaps, the No.1. This season, though, he has looked miles away from that player, and it could be argued that he has cost the side games.

Against Parma, there were notable incidents where the Frenchman looked lacklustre from an effort perspective, and from a defensive standpoint, there have been questions in several games.

In other words, it is a repeating issue, and no one currently has a solution.

Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) picked up on this in this morning’s edition, and they have claimed that he is suffering from ‘physical and psychological tiredness’. His case is complicated, but there is no chance to stop and evaluate.

Instead, the games, and important ones at that, are coming thick and fast. There is no downtime, and it has been hinted that this is the reason for the drop in his performance levels. For the Rossoneri, there is no ‘proper deputy’, which only harms Theo and the squad in the long run.

The paper, therefore, suggest that the solution could be a period of resting the defender, only playing him when necessary to allow him a slight break, in all departments. A situation which Fonseca desperately needs to fix.

  1. Where is the real Theo? Already left the building and wondering whether Bayern will call him after Davies has signed with Real.

Probably also worried about his low income and can’t even pay the bills and feed his family with his lowball salary, eh?

He would make himself far more attractive to Milan’s management and his potential buyers if the decided to play as well as he can instead of daydreaming on the pitch and watching the opponents score 1m away from him.

  2. Well he just recently had his first child and talking from experience, the first year can take a toll on both your mind and body. Hope that it is just that but who knows :Þ

  3. Theo has been ran into the ground. I’m surprised he hasn’t been more injured. It’s truly a testament to his resiliency, stamina and fitness that he’s been able to play this well for so long. The only player in the team without a backup, for years. And then goes to France where he also performs there as well. Dude MUST be physically and mentally drained

  4. Milan has played 11 Serie A Matches so far. Theo has only started 7 of them. He’s missed 2 due to red card suspensions. He only played 30 mins against Torino and only 20 mins against Lazio. And Milan has had an extra week of rest due to the Bologna postponement. He’s played fewer minutes this season then ever before. Can we stop making excuses for him at some point?

    1. No Ben and several others are doing everything he can to stir the Milan management/Americans are the worst narrative…
I can’t think of a writer that cherry picks situations to paint management as clumsy more often than this guy.
Ben here’s a stat: Theo has played less minutes than Tijjani, Fofana, Pulisic and of course Mike.
Also for comparison every other great player plays nearly every game barring injury. Messi and Ronaldo played like 60 games a year including international games so there’s that too
