Pioli admits AC Milan are entering an important phase; defends Suso amid heavy criticism

By Isak Möller -

Ahead of tomorrow’s clash between AC Milan and Udinese at the San Siro, Stefano Pioli spoke to the media at the usual press conference this afternoon (via MilanNews.it), evidently happy with how things have gone lately.

The Rossoneri have seemingly picked themselves up after a very rocky start to the season, winning their last two games convincingly. Above all, they have been able to find the back of the net, bagging five goals in the process.

“The team is working a lot, we have found balance even with a different game system, everyone is actively trying to put pressure on the opponent. We must be aware that we can score goals.

“The fans are showing incredible support, the fans have always supported us. Tomorrow we must try to gain enthusiasm and strength, we have to give a lot to have a lot,” he began.

As you would expect, the manager was asked about the situation, to which he made it clear that the players have a big chance to change the outcome of the season. Hopefully, they can take advantage.

“If we are healed? We must take advantage of this moment, we are fine and we have to improve the standings. The first round wasn’t up to par, tomorrow we have the first chance.

“We have to score more points quickly. We will play four times at the San Siro in the next five games, including the Coppa Italia. It will not be a decisive period but it’s very important,” he continues.

Milan are struggling with a few injuries as the likes of Calabria, Calhanoglu and Musacchio have been left out of the squad. When asked about the matter, Pioli admitted that he would have liked to recover a few more than just Donnarumma.

“I was hoping to recover a few more players, we are in somewhat of an emergency, but those who are there are well and motivated. They are enough to do well tomorrow. Donnarumma? He’s in the squad and he’s fine, I think he can play.

“Castillejo a starter? Everyone is a starter, everyone is available. Samu must find continuity, he’s finding the right condition, every opportunity he has to play, he must take advantage of.

“The transfer market? There is no tension, the whole group is working with attention and participation, we have such an important game and don’t want to talk about the market. All the players called up are ready and available to play and help the team.

“Suso? Criticisms must stimulate us and make us grow. I believe in Suso, he has the qualities to be an important player for us.

“Calhanoglu? He hasn’t fully recovered, he has had muscle resentment. We didn’t want to risk him, I hope he can recover for the next game. Ibra is fine, he needs to train and play continuously,” he concluded.
