Pioli assesses Milan’s ‘margins for improvement’ and the ‘concept’ of their game

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has praised his side for their ‘enthusiasm and energy’ but stressed that it must continue this way.

Milan secured their third consecutive win this evening as they managed to beat Lazio by two goals to nil, courtesy of Rafael Leao and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Several players impressed and the Rossoneri head coach can be pleased with what was a very professional display against a side tipped to be a rival for the top four.

Pioli spoke to reporters who gathered at the press conference after the game and began with a reflection on the performance, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“We must continue to play like this, with this enthusiasm and energy. We are certainly stronger. We are satisfied with today’s game, but we are thinking about the next match that will be very stimulating,” he said.

“I’m not surprised, I know the qualities of the players. Today we did everything well. We are happy, we started this block of 7 games well and the other 6 will be very difficult.”

It was fairytale stuff in the 67th minute as Ibrahimovic got his name on the scoresheet four months after his last appearance for the club.

On Ibrahimovic: “Ibra’s eve was as usual, with great attention and availability, with a bit of emotion since he hadn’t tasted the enthusiasm of the fans. He experienced a great emotion for him today. Together we will find the best way to manage it.”

On the margins for improvement: “There are many margins for improvement. We are not yet in the best condition: the sooner we will have a homogeneous group, the sooner we will level up. We wanted to start well, but we are only at the beginning.”

On training: “The more we are, the better. Ibra is a champion and with Giroud I will have even more choice.”

On the Champions League: “We have shown a year and a half to get to the Champions League: we want to show that we are at that level. Building the team well means having players with different characteristics; we often change positions on the pitch and choose the best options to have advantages.”

On the performance: “The team worked well. I think the concept is quite simple even if it is not so obvious. We play for how we train and we train for how we want to play. Now we have the head to the next one, we will recover energy because we will need it.”

  1. Do you think that winning this match would erase his stupidity for not playing hauge. He wasted a good player and we must talk because Milan is bigger than him. We are not criticizing him because of the players but for our Milan
