CorSport: Pioli attempts to recreate Tonali’s success in Verona with tactical change

Sandro Tonali was the protagonist for AC Milan the last time that they played against Hellas Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi, and Stefano Pioli could try and repeat it.

Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) recalls how Tonali celebrated his birthday with a brace in the same fixture last season, scoring two goals to help the Rossoneri engineer a 3-1 comeback win that was huge in the scheme of the Scudetto race.

However, Tonali is still hunting for his first goal this season after having netting five in 2021-22. The turning point could be Verona for him because Pioli may decide to deploy him as a midfielder who plays close to the forward line, as he did in the last few matches of last season, with the aim of making the Rossoneri’s attacking manoeuvres more unpredictable.

This move was also glimpsed against Chelsea but Siebert’s decision to send off Fikayo Tomori made the Rossoneri change plans. Tonali is a leader of the team and he has played in every match this season apart from the first one, with Pioli aiming to ensure he can be just as decisive as he was last time in Verona.
