Pioli addresses Bennacer’s role, working with Reijnders, and return date

By Ben Dixon -

In Stefano Pioli’s pre-Atalanta press conference, he addressed the current situation regarding Ismael Bennacer’s return to AC Milan’s starting 11. He also shed some light on who he may partner with in the midfield.

Before the game against Frosinone, Ismael Bennacer had not featured for Milan in over 200 days. However, after Pioli brought him onto the field, much to the joy of the San Siro, it felt like Milan had a new signing, one to be excited about.

Milanistas have not seen the Algerian partner alongside the new core of their side’s midfield. As such, Pioli and the fans can expect the best to come. Given the importance of their summer additions, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tijjani Reijnders have provided so far with a not-yet-solidified third to their trio.

Pioli addressed the midfield situation and Bennacer’s role at Milanello on Friday, where reporters gathered for his pre-match press conference.

“Bennacer needs some time to regain his condition.

“He [Bennacer] is of the highest level. He has a great personality. He must find his best condition. He had a trouble-free recovery with great consistency. We look forward to it [his return] 100%.

“His return? Soon. I don’t think it will be very long.

“Reijnders and Bennacer together? I’m talking a lot with Bennacer about his position. We have clear ideas. Among intelligent players it’s never a problem to make them play together,” he stated.

Powered by the return of Bennacer, Pioli may now be fully able to unlock the full potential of his new and old assets. After the midfielder admitted that he aspires to win the Ballon d’Or, he could be the vital cog, to assist Milan in making their midfield tick that bit more.

  1. I’m super excited to see Bennacer return from long awaiting injury. The midfield is 100% strong now and pioli should use the strength of our midfield as the base of his strength/tactics provided that no more injuries. Forza Milan
