Sky: Pioli cancels scheduled day of rest amid concerns after friendly defeats

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli decided to cancel the scheduled day off after the defeat against PSV Eindhoven last night, according to a report.

According to what was reported by Peppe Di Stefano live on Sky (via MilanNews), coach Pioli decided yesterday evening – in agreement with Paolo Maldini, Ricky Massara and the players – to cancel the scheduled day of rest.

The decision came after the friendly defeat against PSV, the third after those against Arsenal and Liverpool. The team trained at Milanello this morning and remained at the training centre for the obligatory lunch.

The work carried out in the session was not intended to be a punishment in any way and was purely tactical because Pioli wanted to review some of the game situations, also given to the limited time available before the next official match.

It is nonetheless an important signal that Pioli wanted to send to his squad in view of a particularly demanding month of January, starting from January 4 in Salerno against Davide Nicola’s side.

  1. Last year World Cup really messed up with the league schedule. Not just Pioli needs to build up the positive rhythm again but many of his players doesn’t look fit and off form after one month delay because of World Cup.
