CM: Pioli’s choices for Fiorentina could be a big sign ahead of the summer mercato

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan face two crucial games in the space of a few days as they travel to face Fiorentina tomorrow and then Spurs next Wednesday, and Stefano Pioli must manage his squad well.

Calciomercato.com report that Stefano Pioli is grappling with various training problems given the injury suffered by Brahim Diaz and the suspension that Rafael Leão will serve tomorrow, even if Ante Rebic, Charles De Ketelaere and Yacine Adli are all fit.

A decision must be made for the game against La Viola: whether to deploy Olivier Giroud again and ask him to work overtime, or save him for the game against an opponent he knows well in Tottenham.

This choice could also lead to a sign about how Divock Origi is currently viewed and the strategy to be implemented in the next summer transfer window. If the Belgian is not used, it strongly suggests Pioli does not trust him and thus the idea of signing a new centre-forward in the summer – with Origi potentially even leaving – would gather momentum.

  1. Origi leaving? Never going to happen. He is too happy to get 4M€/y without having to work for it. No one would pay him that kind of money and no one would pay Milan a dime for him. We’re stuck with him for 3 more years.

    1. Origi had a reputation for scoring big goals at Liverpool, making a big impact off the bench.

I can see a mid table EPL side being prepared to take him on.

As it stands we’re very likely wanting to get his $4m pa salary for the next 3 seasons off the books. I doubt we’d put a price on Origi that would do anything but facilitate a transfer.
