Pioli confirms Milan are ‘stretched’ in defence and hints at potential signing

By Isak Möller -

After securing Brahim Diaz and Sandro Tonali, Milan are now working on a few other signings. At the start of the pre-season, it has become clear that the Rossoneri need to reinforce the defence with a centre-back.

Andrea Conti, Alessio Romagnoli and Mateo Musacchio are injured and currently unavailable, leaving Stefano Pioli with just Simon Kjaer, Leo Duarte and Matteo Gabbia for the centre-back position. Obviously, that isn’t good enough for Milan.

Romagnoli is expected to be back for the start of the season, set to pair up with Kjaer. Musacchio, on the other hand, could be sold and Leo Duarte has been disastrous during pre-season thus far. That leaves just Matteo Gabbia for the centre-back position.

In an interview with MilanTV (via MilanNews.it), following the 4-1 win against Monza last night, Pioli addressed this issue. He also hinted that there could be some movement on the market to solve this.

“Right now we have Romagnoli, Musacchio and Conti out, we are stretched. I’m in constant contact with the technical area and the club. The market is still long, we will see what kind of opportunities will arise,” he stated.
