AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has asked for determination from his side against a difficult opponent in Lecce.
Milan have had a mixed start to 2023 as they won against Salernitana to begin the new calendar year but then surrendered a two-goal lead against Roma and then were dumped out of the Coppa Italia by 10-man Torino.
Tonight presents an opportunity to get back on track in the league though and climb into outright second place after Juve’s loss against Napoli, but they run into a Lecce side that have beaten Atalanta and Lazio in their last two home games.
Before the match against Lecce, Stefano Pioli spoke to DAZN to discuss the game at the Stadio Via del Mare, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
On the current moment: “The team needs to be determined. I saw this in the boys and I expect this today. It will be difficult against an opponent who is doing well, we have to do better than in the last two games.”
On training: “The most important match is today’s. The Supercoppa arrives in four days, now we’re just thinking about today’s match.”
On the season: “We only have to think about raising our level and our path. It’s too early to take stock, there are still many games. Let’s just think about today’s match.”
The team is in a big crisis. Milan lost scudetto, lost coppa. They will probably loose against Inter. And there is possibility to finish after fourth place if this continue. Cardinale will be on fire in next season.
Determined to lose I see. I haven’t seen such awful football in ages. Even f’ng Qatar played better in the WC than these pathetic wankers.
After first the 30 minutes it looked as it was France against a Bulgarian 5th division team. So pathetic display from Milan. And well deserved loss today. And I think it’s better to NOT watch Wednesday’s Inter match as it will be a massacre. I don’t think 6-0 will suffice.
Frankly speaking I am disgusted by what I saw. The abysmal display cannot withstand any criticism. We don’t have a proper replacement for any of our key players (e.g. Tonali). Pobega is an absolute mediocrity and I refuse to watch any game where he is a starter. Shame!!!
The only good thing about this catastrophic defeat could be that M&M MIGHT reconsider their “the mercato is closed”-claim.
If Milan wants to play UCL next season, M&M must act NOW! We cannot wait and see whether Kjaer, Rebic, Zlatan & Origi stay fit and return immediately to their career top level (and we all know the answer to that already)…
But who should they buy? Based on this days performance, they’d need 11 new starters to be able to compete for the TOP4 place.
This is the worst 45 minutes I have seen from Milan this season, maybe the worst half in the last 5 years. Shocking.
F’ng disgusting! Even Umtiti looks like he’s a f’ng Messi compared to any Milan player.
I wonder if the people here who demanded Kalulu to get something like 4M€/y because “he’s worth it” still think so. He’s been a shadow of himself from last season. Not only today but whole season. Every week we see him gifting the ball to opponents in dangerous positions.
How many more goals that we have to concede from crosses? Please stop that Fik & Pierre pairing. Been saying this since match 1.

I’ll say it again, we have no game plan. Who watched the build up to Lecce 2nd goal, that’s a game plan. All we do is run and wipe in balls with hope. Giroud should be benched WTF is with those rubbish flicks that finds nobody, no holdup play or anything. I’m in pains.

Who can replace him ? I watched the game and I actually thought he was one of the best players on the pitch ..He did not get the best service ,and had 3 shots on target ,one of which needed a briilant save from the lecce goalkeeper..just watch the highlights again Giroud was involved with both our goals ,and the second goal was not a lucky flick on ..
So tell me next that rafeol leao was a star,he certainly was not ,how many times did he give the ball away .

The super cup comes next ,no doubt Olivier Giroud will score 2 goals and he will be the Hero again .
If you think Origi or Rebec can replace Giroud,your living in dream land ..Olivier has plenty to offer .
We still have plenty to play for ..if we finnish second in the scuddeto at the end of the season,and win the super cup against inter ,and beat Tottenham in the champions leauge .What will you all be saying then .
Yes we did not play well at all tonight,or indeed the last couple of games ,but a couple of wins can restore confidence and change that .
