Pioli explains why Loftus-Cheek must be ‘guided’ after injury-prone years

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has recovered from the injury that kept him on the sidelines recently, but now he’s struggling with inflammation. During today’s press conference, Stefano Pioli shared an update on the Englishman’s situation.

Loftus-Cheek sustained an injury in the 2-0 win against Lazio, leaving the pitch just 29 minutes into the clash. He has since been working individually at Milanello and although he has recovered from the initial injury, he’s now struggling with pubic/abdominal inflammation.

During today’s press conference, ahead of the big game against Napoli tomorrow, Pioli was asked about the Englishman and when he will be back in action. The manager made it clear that the former Chelsea man must be ‘guided’ in these times.

“He’s important for our attacking phase from a physical and quality point of view, but we also have other characteristics and we can be dangerous even without him. He has recovered from the injury he had, but now he’s struggling with pubic/abdominal inflammation.

“Every day he seems to be better, he’s missing the last step to return to the team. He certainly won’t be with us tomorrow. There is a good chance that he will recover for the next match.

“From a psychological point of view, unfortunately, he is a boy who has had many injuries in the past, so he needs to be guided and supported a little. He started very well, and now he needs to be supported a little,” he stated.

Yunus Musah has done a good job in Loftus-Cheek’s absence but it’s clear that the latter is a key player for Milan. Having him back for the next game would thus be a huge boost for Pioli, who is dealing with several absences currently.
