Pioli gives intriguing response to Milan-Tonali links amid rumours Inter have tied up €45m deal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has praised Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali amid speculation that the Rossoneri are in the running for his signature.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Monday that the Rossoneri management have been working for months to strengthen the midfield department, adding that Tonali is the number one target  as every single member of the management are in agreement regarding his potential signing.

However, Tuttosport (via MilanNews) among other sources have claimed that Inter are still in pole position to sign the talented young Italy international as they have already agreed personal terms.

Speaking to reporters before Saturday’s game against Cagliari, Pioli responded to rumours of Milan’s interest, and did not rule out a move.

“First of all I think that at Milan the talented players are always welcome, more or less young is not so relevant,” he said.

“We intend to make some signings that can improve our squad, also and above all if we manage to get into the Europa League groups. I don’t think the team needs a lot of signings, but the club are working on it and the ownership are willing to invest. From August 24th we will be even more competitive.”

Meanwhile, il Corriere di Brescia (via MilanLive) are reporting that an agreement between Inter and Brescia is very close. The total amount of the player’s transfer would be €35million when factoring in the paid loan and the obligation to buy in June 2021.

Inter already has an agreement with Beppe Bozzo – his agent – on the basis of a four-year contract worth €2.5million net per year, meaning a total investment of €45m.
