Pioli hints at Ibrahimovic return by saying ‘he is always welcome at Milanello’

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has not ruled out the idea of Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning to the club in some manner as he said that he is always welcome at the training centre.

Speaking during his first press conference of the new season (via Milan News), the boss was asked about whether Ibrahimovic could possibly return to the club in some sort of managerial role.

Whilst Pioli was never likely to speak too openly about that sort of thing, he stressed that the former Milan striker is welcome back at Milanello whenever he likes.

“He is always welcome at Milanello. I spoke with him a few days ago, I still don’t know what his future will be and also the club’s choices on this role,” Pioli said.

Ibrahimovic retired at the end of the 2022/23 campaign after a season that saw constant injury issues keeping him away from the pitch.

There is some mystery about what Ibrahimovic is going to do with his time next as there was a widespread assumption that he would move straight into some sort of clearly defined job or role at a club, Milan or elsewhere.

  1. Bring him back as player-coach. Still haven’t signed anyone better. If he can stay healthy he’ll lead the team in goals.
