Pioli insists he got what he wanted in the summer window: “To have more than 12-13 starters”

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has thanked the club’s management and ownership for granting his wishes in the summer transfer window.

Pioli spoke to SportMediaset after Thursday night’s 3-1 win against Celtic – a game that extended his side’s unbeaten run in all competitions to 21 games.

He began by discussing the squad rotation he deployed at Celtic Park in which five changes were made compared to the derby win over Inter.

“I’m happy, but I was sure that all the boys were available and ready to play. We have good qualities and playing principles that everyone knows. It’s not so crucial to always play with the same players,” he said (via MilanNews).

One man who continues to show that age is simply a number is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and he was the author of another good performance in Scotland.

“Everyone knows the importance of Zlatan and he feels this responsibility, and therefore is very available to everyone,” Pioli added.

“Milan must look to the future with confidence because we are showing that we have values. We must continue to play well and sacrifice ourselves.”

Milan brought in a number of reinforcements during the summer transfer, continuing their trend of counting on young players, with the likes of Sandro Tonali, Brahim Diaz, Jens Petter Hauge and Diogo Dalot all joining.

On those additions, Pioli added: “I know I got what I wanted and what I had asked from the club: to have more than 12-13 starters.”
