Pioli says Milan must ‘concentrate on the next match’ against Juventus after Chelsea loss

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has said that the Rossoneri must turn their attention towards the Juventus game on Saturday after analysing the Chelsea defeat.

Speaking after the 3-0 defeat against the Blues at Stamford Bridge to Milan TV (via Milan News), Pioli showed that the fixture leaves little room for teams to dwell on disappointing defeats as he said they must now concentrate on the Juventus match.

“We’ll have to analyse this match with Chelsea well and understand why we didn’t come out with certain situations that are within our reach.

“Now we will have to concentrate on the next match that is very important for our season, we will know how to face it.”

Milan put in a very poor display against Chelsea and they did not deserve to get anything from the game. Pioli did not hide away from the fact that far too many mistakes were made.

“We did little despite not starting the match badly. We made too many mistakes, we conceded too much space to our opponents. Then the match became difficult.”

He also lamented the fact that the Diavolo were not aggressive enough at certain points in the match, saying: “There were situations where we could have been more aggressive. I think we didn’t dribble well tonight and there were chances to do so.

“Chelsea’s pressure was not so strong and continuous. We looked for depth when there wasn’t any, when you look for depth too much you end up stretching yourself so much and that didn’t allow us to be a compact team in both phases.”

He was also asked if he may consider a switch to a three-man defence in order to combat the injury issues and he said: “Right now we have less rotation, especially on the right flank, so it’s up to us to try something else. It seemed like the right time to do it, then we’ll see in the future.”

  1. Based on history and resume Pioli is only a capable manager in Serie A. Yes yes the injuries. ..
But he’s never proven anything outside of Serie A.

  2. I expect no more from pioli, especially in champions league since player such Adli get benched permanently. I Just hope we dont have to struggle in Serie A as we are the Champion of Italia

  3. This Milan team needs time. The injuries are crazy too people:

    GK: injured
    RB: injured
    LB: injured
    Ist choice DM: unfit
    Both RWF: injured
    Support Striker: unfit
Two out of three strikers: injured

It was never going to be a contest against a Chelsea side that has spent close to 300 million euros this summer on players.

    1. That is exactly why Pioli failed so miserably, Knowing he had Theo, Maignan, Calabria & Saelemaekers out the 4-2-3-1 was way to ambitious to play in London . A 4-3-3 or 4-3-1-2 was a must with the fullbacks Dest & Ballo on the pitch De keta still unsettled in the team has left our midfield even more lightweight which was overrun last night. I hope Pioli realizes it’s a different Milan this year and Vranckx/ Pobega /Krunic need to play in a 3 midfield this year.

  4. Considering players we miss in def ,there should be a reserve plan, keep talking about reserve plan that pioli prepared but never used… If you miss half of a team its not normal to use same tactic, toure and dest are not ready for this level,it had to be 541 or 532 since we didnt even try to attack them but we still played 4231 ,very bad.
