Pioli says Milan need a ‘high-level’ display vs. Slavia Praha: “An important game”

By Isak Möller -

Ahead of the clash between AC Milan and Slavia Praha this evening, Stefano Pioli spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the task at hand. He warned that the Rossoneri will have to be at their best to clinch a good result.

Milan knocked out Stade Rennes in the knockout phase play-off and certainly got a bit lucky with the draw for the Round of 16. While Slavia Praha are a good side, the Rossoneri could have got Bayer Leverkusen or Liverpool instead.

Speaking to Sky Italia ahead of the game, as cited by MilanNews, Pioli shared his thoughts on the counter and what is needed from the Rossoneri. He also commented on Rafael Leao, who recently broke his goal drought in the league.

On the game…

“It’s an important game as we want to start this phase well.”

On Slavia…

“In Europe, you need quality and intensity. They know how to play well and run a lot. A high-level performance will be needed.”

On the fans…

“Our fans are always present and always support us.”

On Leao…

“He must always do well. He’s a quality player, let’s hope it’s his night. Rafa is strong, it’s normal to expect great plays from him.”

The next leg will be played already next week and just like against Stade Rennes, Milan will be hoping to clinch a good result at San Siro.

  1. Again pioli’s team cannot stretched a an opponent 11 v 10.
Seems like they play 4-0-4, reijnders & adli have no one to pass to in yhe middle, always passing back because there is a ghost on the pitch(RLC).
Wrap-up this false 8/10 obsession, RLC is not Kessie.
Play Musa alongside adli & reijnders. Drop the ghost

  2. Currently watching the game. This is a team with a passive mentality that ships too many goals to be successful in this tournament or in Serie A. Getting outplayed by a team with 10 men. Pathetic.

  3. Well, it was a low level display. Only reason we scored 4 was Slavia being down a man. Away leg is going to suck.
