Pioli says Milan ‘must recover Kjaer’ in response to Tomori’s red card against Chelsea

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has said that they must receiver Simon Kjaer for the next Champions League match after Fikayo Tomori was sent off against Chelsea.

Speaking during his press conference after the defeat against Chelsea on Tuesday night (via Milan News), Pioli was quizzed about how he will react to the sending off of Tomori for the next Champions League match.

The English defender was adjudged to have dragged Mason Mount down in the box during the 2-0 defeat and a penalty was awarded, which meant he had to be sent off.

That means he will be suspended for the next group match against Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia on October 25. For that reason, Pioli wants to make sure that Kjaer is back from his injury in time for that match.

“We will have to recover Kjaer, but there are still two weeks… if not we will move Kalulu to the centre,” Pioli said.

He then stressed that Milan can still qualify from their Champions League group as long as they beat Dinamo Zagreb and RB Salzburg.

“Now we think about the championship, but let’s not forget that the round is still in our hands. With two wins we can pass the round, now let’s prepare for the away match in Zagreb in the best possible way because it will be very important,” he said.

  1. F that. We need Gabbia to have more games. Old man can take his time recovering rather than suck up game time trying to get back fit and reinjuring himself again

    1. I think you misunderstood. What Pioli said is we practically only have 1 CB (Gabbia) for UCL after Tomori red card since Kalulu will play as RB to cover Calabria & Florenzi absent. Pioli can’t use Thiaw and Dest still looks shaky as RB.

So if Kjaer recover in time then that would be a good news, with Gabbia will be partner with him and Kalulu can play as RB.
