Pioli lambasts early mistake but praises Milan for having ‘recovered the game’ – video

Stefano Pioli praised the resolve that his side showed to come from behind and earn a draw against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.

Milan were chasing the game for 72 minutes after an early opener from Alvaro Morata on the counter-attack, but 14 minutes from time Ante Rebic popped up to head a corner in off the post and earn a draw.

Speaking to the club channel Milan TV, Pioli reflected on the game and what could be a very valuable point, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.

“We are a great team and today’s performance must give us confidence. We gave our opponents a goal on a situation that had to be reviewed. It was a serious mistake. Through the game and the intensity, however, we recovered the game and this is important,” he said.

Pioli was asked if there was a lot of time lost during the game: “Absolutely yes. Then we wonder why when we face certain opponents, we suffer. 48 minutes of actual play are too few. Too much chatter on the pitch, too many minutes lost on the ground. We also need to improve in protests. I say this for us but also for the show, for the fans.”

On the absentees: “These setbacks have deprived me of the possibility of rotating some players. I could have had some more effective changes in terms of characteristics and players. We played an excellent match. Now comes the hard part because after such an important week in terms of the prestige of the opponents, now there are games that are more difficult to face against opponents like Venice and Spezia.”
