Pioli on the Super League: “The club asked me to think only about work and our target”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli kept tight-lipped about the announcement of the European Super League, insisting it is not the time to talk about it.

The world of football has been shaken by the announcement of the European Super League which came on Sunday night and it feels like everything related to the games themselves has faded into the background as we may be the cusp of something that could literally change the sport forever.

The premise is pretty simple: 12 ‘elite’ European clubs have decided they are no longer happy with how UEFA run things and have decided to break off and form their own version of the Champions League. This is an idea that has been talked about for months, with Milan a founding member.

Pioli spoke at his pre-match press conference at Milanello this afternoon and discussed a wide range of topics, with his comments on the Super League transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

“The club asked me to think only about work and our target. Then we will evaluate what will happen in the future, this is not the time to think about anything else.”
