Pioli explains Origi’s task against Monza and refuses to rule out Ibra comeback

By Isak Möller -

Ahead of Milan’s clash against Monza, Stefano Pioli spoke to the media about the Rossoneri’s chances. He also explained what he wants to see from Divock Orrigi, who plays from the first minute.

Milan are looking to make it three consecutive wins this evening and thus fully bounce back from what was a tough start to 2023. However, it won’t be easy against tonight’s opponents Monza, who are unbeaten in the last eight games.

Speaking to DAZN, as cited by MilanNews, Pioli shared his thoughts on the clash and also the decision to start Origi rather than Giroud up front. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in the squad and he could get a few minutes, as per the manager.

On the game…

“The idea is to try to control the match, it’s two teams that will handle the ball well. The characteristics of our forwards are known, we hope to put the opposing defence in difficulty.”

What do you ask of Origi?

“As soon as possible he must attack in behind the defence”.

Is there a chance to see Ibra today?

“If he’s here with us, it means he’s ready. Then it will depend on how the game goes, it depends on many situations, but he is certainly ready. He can’t play a lot but he is better.”
