Tuttosport: Pioli ready to rotate against Sampdoria – the five possible changes

By Oliver Fisher -

In two days AC Milan will be back on the field against Sampdoria at the Marassi, and Stefano Pioli is reportedly already thinking about rotations he can make.

After Saturday’s derby win and Tuesday’s draw in Salzburg, it is immediately time to think about the next match for Milan against Sampdoria, and Tuttosport (via MilanNews) believe Pioli will give rest to some players in what is a very demanding period.

The two most likely changes will come in defence and midfield where the Rossoneri have two pairs of players who have been used a fair bit early in the new campaign. Pierre Kalulu should get a rest and Simon Kjaer should come back in, while one of Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer will sit out for Tommaso Pobega.

Then, there is Sergino Dest – fresh from his club debut in Austria – who could come in for Davide Calabria. For the two other newcomers – Malick Thiaw and Aster Vranckx – we will have to wait a little longer for their first start but they could come off the bench.

In attack, a lot will depend on the condition Ante Rebic who continues to train separately and it is still unclear whether he will leave for Genoa with the team. What seems certain is that on the right wing Alexis Saelemaekers will start, as will Rafael Leao on the left.

Theo Hernandez appears irreplaceable at the moment too, while Brahim Diaz is expected to back in for Charles De Ketelaere who will recharge his batteries for the games against Dinamo Zagreb and Napoli.

Finally, there should be the chance for Divock Origi’s first start given that Olivier Giroud has been working overtime recently.

  1. I really am curious what the situation with Adli is. Is he not impressing and underperforming during training or is it more of he is performing well but Pioli doesnt know how to best play him in the current formation?

Would really like clarity on this. Would be a shame and waste if he doesnt get playing time.

  2. Origi will turn it around. He’s a great player. Smart, well positioned and has a knack to score big goals. He’s just returning to full fitness and getting used to the new league. He will be great for us soon.

The other rotations Pioli is planning/considering all sound good/smart except that I would like to see more Adli and less Diaz.
