AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has hinted at the possibility of trying Ante Rebic on the other wing and revealed the ‘secret’ of his success.
The Rossoneri have had a bit of a problem on the right wing this season as Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias have both failed to offer the right guarantees. The Belgian is the only Milan player to have played in all 38 games across all competitions so far this season while the Brazilian has started 7 of the last 9 matches.
There are contrasting problems with the duo: Saelemaekers struggles to find the composure for the end product that his dynamic runs often deserve, while Messias does not offer the same balance and his five goals for the season are what rescues him.
This is why the idea of starting Rebic – who has double figures in goals for each of the last two seasons – has once again been mentioned. Pioli responded to the idea during his pre-match press conference.
“We have many solutions, it depends on the matches. We will face different teams playing a three-man defence, and therefore there are different ways to deal with them. The important thing is to always maintain the breadth and depth of our games,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).
Pioli was also asked what the secret of his work at Milan has been, given the positive journey the team have been on since he arrived.
“My secret is the relationship I have with Maldini, Massara and Gazidis and the availability of my players.”
Rebic is the ideal solution within the team. He can’t do worse than Messias & Saele.
Messis is so predictable just like suso was. To the left and loop. Be brave and try to run at your marker. Saele is over hyper but no end product … no killer passes or goals…
Why not … let’s go for it
Switch saelemakers and diaz positions.
Saele has the dribbling but no speed for the wing, while diaz has both but lacks the strength to go up against the opposing defensive midfielder, which makes a position switch worth considering.
