CorSport: Pioli considers resting both Giroud and Leao for Monza game

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is thinking about freshening up the attack that will face Monza at San Siro tomorrow evening, a report claims.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Pioli will soon resolve the doubts surrounding the starting striker for Saturday’s game as Olivier Giroud, Ante Rebic and Divock Origi are all available to start from the first minute.

The choice, inevitably, will also be made with the Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb in mind. Giroud has started 14 games this season already including every league match for Milan since the third round against Bologna, meaning he has appeared fatigued recently and hasn’t scored for five games.

For this reason Pioli could decide to let him rest up, especially with the Champions League match in Croatia approaching where it will be important to have an experienced striker like the Frenchman available and at 100%.

Rebic and Origi look to be nearing their best condition after respective injury issues and their appearances off the bench against Hellas Verona were encouraging, so we await clues in training today as to how Pioli will line up the attack.

The Crotian is certainly in better shape as he returned a few days before the Belgian and he also has three goals and two assists to his name despite limited appearances, so he is in pole position for the starting position, with Origi then ready to take over.

However, another option cannot be ruled out, namely that Pioli decides to have Rafael Leao also rest and in that case we would see Rebic start on the left with Origi the centre-forward.
