Pioli reveals how Romagnoli reacted to getting dropped from Milan’s starting XI

Alessio Romagnoli has struggled in recent months and as a result, he was benched in the important game against Roma last weekend. It didn’t help that his replacement, Fikayo Tomori, performed really well.

The captain is no longer an undisputed starter in this Rossoneri side after what has been several years of being one of the few certainties. For the game against Hellas Verona tomorrow, the former Roma man is expected to be benched again.

It’s a delicate situation given that Romagnoli is the captain, the leader of the team, and Stefano Pioli was asked about the matter during the presser today. As cited by MilanNews, he revealed the reaction of the defender.

“He accepted my choice, not with satisfaction, but he accepted the choice with professionalism and then he was ready with Udinese,” the manager stated.

The season is still long and there will be opportunities for Romagnoli to bounce back. And with the Euros around the corner, this is crucial for him. It won’t be easy though, especially if Tomori continues to perform like this.
