Pioli explains the ‘secret’ of Milan’s win against Dinamo that ‘wasn’t easy’ – video

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli was very happy that his team were able to show their true qualities in the 4-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb last night.

Dinamo had not lost at home since 2021 but that unbeaten run was brought to an end in a very comprehensive way by Milan, with Matteo Gabbia, Rafael Leao, Olivier Giroud and an own-goal all contributing to a 4-0 victory that could have been a wider margin in truth.

Pioli spoke to Milan TV at the end of the game at the Stadion Maksimir to assess his team’s performance, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“It wasn’t easy, even the beginning wasn’t easy. Once we defended better we managed to be very dangerous. Certainly thanks to my players but now the real step for the Champions League will be the next match. Now we have to get back to the league with concentration and will,” he said.

“The secret is teamwork, of a group of players who care very much about their work. We always give our best. I have many talented players available, I always try to exploit their qualities.

“The staff always talks, it is a continuous update and I can advise my players. The work of the staff is very important, we have accustomed the players to understand different dynamics from those prepared.”

On the next match against Salzburg: “It would be a big mistake to enter with that mentality. We are used to playing games knowing that we face a dangerous and quality opponent. We should be particularly careful and play for Milan.”

On the games between now and the end of the season: “We have certain characteristics. We played with two more physical centre-back and we had a lot of height on the pitch. We have been dangerous on the dead balls and we always try to be balanced.

“Now there will be great concentration for Torino. In the league we are doing well and we want to continue. There are still four league games and one Champions League game left before the break. We must try to win every match.”
