Pioli explains selections and insists Milan will show ‘desire, attitude and mentality’ vs. Chelsea

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has claimed that his team have multiple motivations to go out and put on a better showing against Chelsea compared to last week.

Milan will welcome Chelsea to San Siro tonight with the aim of getting revenge for the disappointing 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge last week. Pioli’s men will have to be far better than they were in London in order to get a result against a Graham Potter side that have now won three in a row.

Pioli spoke to Mediaset Infinity+ before the game against Chelsea and was asked about the magnitude of the match, with his comments relayed by MilanNews and translated below.

“We have many motivations in this match: to improve our ranking in the group, to show that we are not what was seen in London, to want to continue with Saturday’s performance and to do well in front of our fans. There are all the possibilities to have a great match,” he said.

“I have no doubts about the desire, attitude and mentality of the team. In London, after the second goal, it became difficult, but I think it was the first time in a long time with a two-goal disadvantage. We will be motivated and stimulated in the right way to have a great performance.”

Pioli decided to entrust almost the exact same starting line-up that beat Juventus 2-0 at the Meazza on Saturday evening, with the only change being Rade Krunic coming into the midfield for Tommaso Pobega.

“Today we welcomed back Messias, but only to come off the bench. Something on the right needed to be changed. But beyond the positions on the pitch, it is important to have a careful team in both phases and to be more dangerous in front of goal, as we did not do in London.”

  1. What are the new players doing, if we don’t play them? What qualities does krunic bring that adli, varaxx etc dont have..joking pioli

  2. All ineligible due to homegrown player rules.
Basically shit mercato..maldini knew that milan didnt have enough funds thus maybe this new players will be groomed enough so can be sell

  3. Pioli is a fool who at this point is just playing the safest options in order to somehow keep his job. Aldi isn’t being given any chances, nor are the other 2 new lads we got. How is Krunic still a Milan player, this guy wouldn’t get into the starting 11 of a championship team in England.
