Sky: Pioli giving serious consideration to starting Rebic vs. Sassuolo – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is considering making a big change to the attack department for Sunday’s game against Sassuolo, a report claims.

According to Sky (via MilanNews), Pioli is using these last couple of training sessions as a chance to evaluate what condition his key men are in and as part of that the possibility of deploying Ante Rebic as the centre-forward from the first minute has arisen.

The Milan boss sees him as being close to 100% and therefore the Croatian could come in for Olivier Giroud, who has been working overtime over the past few months while Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been battling numerous injuries.

It would certainly be somewhat of a roll of the dice from Pioli given that he currently has a formula which has worked in the decisive stretch, but Rebic could offer more in terms of the fluidity of the attack as well as movement and stretching the defence.

  1. Rebic is good as CF. I love his potential assists from the spot. Also he was good at pulling away opponents’ defenders and cleaning up space for Diaz, Leao and Theo.
I think Sassuolo is a right opponent for brute force. That’s where Rebic is good. It kinda worked against Liverpool. Plus Sassuolo don’t have a proper defense and they conceded a lot of goals.
    Let’s see.

  2. Yes! Start Rebic instead of Giroud. Giroud will forever be a hero for us for his goals against Inter and his winner v Napoli; but he hasn’t been good the past 2 matches and Rebic has been excellent off the bench. We can use his energy right from the opening kickoff. He definitely opens up space for Leao and his pressing constantly causes opponents to turnover the ball.
