AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has admitted that something needs to be changed in order for his side to get results and recover the season.
Milan suffered a difficult night in Saudi Arabia as they were beaten 3-0 by rivals Inter in the Supercoppa, with goals from Federico Dimarco, Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez sealing a fourth Super Cup win for Simone Inzaghi.
It has thrust the Rossoneri into a crisis as they have now won just one of their opening five games in 2023 so far, which also includes a collapse against Roma and a Coppa Italia last 16 defeat against Torino, who played for over 50 minutes with 10 men and won in extra-time.
At the end of the Supercoppa final, Pioli spoke in his post-match press conference from the media room of the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
What turn does the season take after tonight?
“One trophy missed but we still have a full season left to make it a positive season.”
How can one recover from such a situation? In terms of intensity, the team is no longer that of last year…
“If we want to get different results, a little something needs to be changed, a lot from a mental point of view and the approach to matches. Already against Lazio we can go back to playing our football.”
Has it been a difficult season so far?
“We have to think about returning to playing at our level rather than thinking about the season, the goal is to go back to being a team with confidence. The season is still long, we have to think about raising the quality level of the game.”
Are there more merits than Inter in this defeat or more demerits than Milan?
“We didn’t play a great game, our demerits are there.”
Is the long ball as a solution sought too insistently?
“The manoeuvre must be more precise and faster. We have to move better, sometimes it’s the opponent’s attitude that forces you to look for space in behind and bypass the midfield. We have to go back to being better at building from the back.”

Well… We got the top talent from Belgium and look where that has taken us. Transfer budget used and gained one assist whole season.
How about getting a couple of proven players who are guaranteed to raise the level of the team instead of getting “talents” you might or might not become usable one day.
Start with the simplest thing you can replace and you know is not working.
He lacks vision, has no offensive play, set paces is a mystery for him, is bad at integrating new players into his team, and doesn’t know how to work with young players. Trainings are not adjusted to avoid injuries, nor is the recovery of injured players adequate.
So lets start there.
Yes Pioli you need to change some things:
1) You can’t use the same players every 4 days. You must put all of them in fire. Like Vranckx, Thiaw, Ballo Toure, Lazetic when others are injured.
2) This is maybe more important. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different result is definition of insanity. So you can’t use your tactics on these players. You need to adjust tactic on players you have and their possibility. Maybe you need to play 5 – 3 – 2. Maybe some games 3 4 3 or 3 5 2. But you can’t play 4 2 1 2 1 over and over again when we don’t have quality attacking midfielder, Right winger and powerful central forward like Ibrahimovic.
When you change these two things you will get different result. Milan become more stronger when Ibrahimovic arrived but we don’t have player like him anymore. So change your strategy.

Sure,but u never change anything.We play every match same system,same players,u just swap messias for saelemakers and they are the same ****. I would rather give chance to Traore at least one match than watching them constantly for 2 years. Also playing Tata every match,didnt our youngsters deserved at least one match on goal? U are telling me that Nava can be worse than Tatarusanu!? I dont believe that.Also Calabria,what is happening with that guy,why wasnt he on his position on first 2 goals? Nowdays we watch him in attack more then Theo,which is nonsense,he can’t do anything upfront.

We owe Pioli for the last two seasons but everyone saw this coming, and should Tonali or Bennacer get injured then we will see a disaster unfold..Only Tonali or Krunic can play in the playmaker position and give balance to the midfield like Kessie used to do. We are desperate for a world class midfielder but Vranckx/Pobega in the meantime should play alongside Bennacer .. Diaz and Leao on the wings with Oli/Ketelaere as CF.. the rest need to be sold with a new RW, CF, CM of High levels brought in immediately as this team cannot progress.
