Pioli believes Milan started ‘in a naive way’ but praises team for ‘reacting immediately’

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli praised the way his AC Milan side were able to execute their game plan against Cagliari last night, especially after going a goal behind.

After Zito Luvumbo put the home side 1-0 up in the first half when Milan had spurned a number of chances, there were fears that it could be another frustrating evening for the Rossoneri, but they answered back before the break with goals from Noah Okafor and Fikayo Tomori.

That meant they went in at half-time 2-1 up and it allowed the second half to be managed in a more serene way. Ruben Loftus-Cheek made sure of the points with a long-range strike, and Milan left Sardinia with maximum points.

Pioli spoke to the reporters who gathered in the press conference room at the Unipol Domus to analyse the win his side were able to obtain, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

There were some difficulties in the first half, then you got going…

“When your opponent is waiting for you, you can find difficulties, but we prepared for this kind of game. We immediately started in a naive way, but credit goes to the boys for reacting immediately and turning around a match that was becoming complicated.”

What do you think of the squad you have available?

“I’m very happy with everyone today. Adli especially did some excellent things.”

What do you think of this victory?

“We prepared well for it. We knew that Cagliari would wait and counter with the hold-up play of Petagna and the speed of Luvumbo. We won because we were a team.”

Will there be rotation ahead of Lazio and the Champions League?

“We’ll see. I haven’t thought about the next games yet.”

  1. Very naive and very slow.. They got lucky for that mistake that demoralized Cagliari. Up unitl that they hardley made any real threats.
It was clear the guys took this game as a formality
