Pioli disappointed with ‘unforced errors’ in Lecce game: “I’m definitely not happy”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli gave a short press conference after his side drew 2-2 against Lecce at the Stadio Via del Mare last night.

It was the worst possible start for Milan against the Giallorossi as they found themselves two goals down inside half an hour, with the first coming via a Theo Hernandez own-goal after a mix-up at the back, and the second coming through a header from Baschirotto.

The Rossoneri battled back in the second half and managed to get themselves level as Rafael Leao halved the deficit with a curling shot from a narrow angle and then Davide Calabria scored with a close range header, but were unable to force a winner and thus slipped to nine points behind Napoli.

Pioli spoke to the reporters who gathered in the press room after the game to reflect on the performance and look ahead to the Supercoppa Italiana game against Inter, with MilanNews relaying his comments.

Milan seem to have lost their identity…

“It won’t be a smooth flight. But it’s the first time we’ve misunderstood the approach to the game by making unforced errors.”

Are you more disappointed by the first 45 minutes or the last 25 in which Milan created absolutely nothing?

“From the first 45. The match got complicated, then in the end we didn’t create so much. I’m definitely not happy, we all have to give something more because tonight’s performance is too far below our potential.”

How will Milan arrive for the Supercoppa?

“We will deal with it as best we can.”
