Pioli reflects on ‘very positive’ win over Monza and dismisses idea of ‘rotation’

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has praised the collective effort of his team as their good run in Serie A continued with a 4-1 win over Monza.

Milan made it four wins in a row in the league and they did so in emphatic circumstances by putting four goals past Monza in the first ever Serie A meeting between the two sides, with two coming in each half.

It was the Brahim Diaz show in the first 45 minutes as he scored after a brilliant solo run and registered a brace with an excellent touch and low shot. The third goal was Divock Origi’s first for the club – a thumping effort into the top corner – and the fourth from Rafael Leao put the game to bed.

Pioli spoke to DAZN after the game to reflect on the performance and another important three points, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

On the match: “The team started the game well: they risked little and built a lot. All very positive things, if not yet a few, especially in the management which then does not allow us to better control the game.”

On Brahim Diaz: “He likes to act on the centre-right, today he had to stay upfield. When he is well you can see, he has fresh legs, his opponents struggle to catch him. He has had muscle fatigue: it does not seem anything serious for him, nor for Dest.”

On De Ketelaere: “We forget that Brahim is the third year he is with us, while Charles is a few months in. I was thinking of making him play in the final 15 minutes. He has the quality to affect our attacking phase. He has to do more, he also knows it. A path that still needs time, but the will of the boy counts. The difference is the team spirit.”

On Messias: “He sacrificed a lot with quantity and hard work. He had an excellent match.”

On the goals conceded: “Due to some carelessness, today the quality of Ranocchia. The important thing is to score many goals. Let’s try to go on with our concerts and our principles.”

On the changes: “You like the term rotation, but my players know that I have a lot of confidence and I have many starters. If I hadn’t had problems with injuries I would have done many more rotations. I am lucky to have a strong tea, a strong team on the pitch, there were other strong players on the bench and that will be the case on Tuesday as well. ”
