Pioli wary of Salernitana’s threat as he makes Spurs comparison

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli is expected a tough game against a team that ‘defend very well’ tomorrow as his AC Milan side take on Salernitana at San Siro.

It is a miracle of sorts that Milan are even playing Salernitana this season given their survival heroics last season under Davide Nicola, with the Granata losing all but five of their opening 23 games to leave them rock bottom, but then going unbeaten from round 32 to 37 – winning four games out of seven – to stay up.

This season so far has been a lot less dramatic as they sit comfortably clear of the bottom three for the time being and with Paulo Sousa having seemingly restored some solidity to the side since his appointment last month.

Pioli spoke to the journalists who gathered at Milanello for his pre-match press conference and he was asked for his thoughts on what he is expecting from Salernitana tomorrow, who match up similar in terms of using a three-man defence with two playmakers supporting the centre-forward.

“They occupy positions similar to that of Tottenham, we have to be careful to control the game well against a team that defend very well and can counter very quickly,” he said (via MilanNews).
