GdS: Pioli eager not to change a winning formula – the probable XI vs. Sassuolo

By Oliver Fisher -

Preparations are continuing for AC Milan’s final game of the season against Sassuolo on Sunday and Stefano Pioli is not expected to make big changes.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) report how the entire squad are available at Pioli’s disposal apart from Kjaer, and the Milan boss seems willing to put faith again in the same starting line-up from the last two league games against Verona and Atalanta.

Mike Maignan will be in goal again with Davide Calabria, Pierre Kalulu, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez as the back four ahead of him. Then, the double pivot of Sandro Tonali and Franck Kessie should be chosen again, with Ismael Bennacer ready to come off the bench.

Rafael Leao is very sure of a starting spot as well as centre-forward Olivier Giroud, who could be replaced by Ante Rebic as happened in the second half against Atalanta. Rade Krunic and Alexis Saelemaekers are also leading the race to start even if Junior Messias still hopes to get the nod.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Hernandez; Kessie, Tonali; Saelemaekers, Krunic, Leao; Giroud.

  1. Messias should start…but kessie is right from the first minute he knows how to deliver when its crunch time

    1. So, if he’s shut out Saelemaekers can replace him?

Use your brain. Saelemaekers starts and helps wear the opponents down. His end products are not impressive. He doesn’t score, nor even create chances often. However, he does have some skills and energy which is okay.

Later on, the coach brings in Messias who is intelligent enough as seen in the last two games with two crucial assists.

That’s also why Bennacer has been coming in from the bench. It’s not that Krunic is better; but you need to have quality on the bench. So, that if you are chasing the game or need to close the game out, you need some people with intelligence to come in.

      1. Krunic is very tactical player than Benacer. You use him in very different positions and his game is consistent. Benacer is also good but he has tendency of starting a game at a bad note n recover later, that is unacceptable at this stage

  2. Yes Olivier Giroud should start this match …
This is the big one ,and I expect Olivier to score in this one ….He is the man for the big games ..
I have always believed that the signing of Olivier was
a great steal ,and that we could win the scuddeto.
I have not changed my mind ,and believe we will .
This side has a great blend of youth ,but also the experience of Zlatan and Olivier ..what a manager we have in pioli …

  3. I prefer rebic for starter rather than giroud which disapointed in the last 2 matches. However we’ve won and that is all that matters.

In pioli we trust, 19th scudetto is a must.

    Forza AC milan per sempre.

  4. In Pioli We Trust….just like any other sport, one shot (method of attack) sets up another, We have been scoring with our feet of late ,this will open up Giroud to headers, Saele. completely different than Messias, ,whoever marks Saele. will have a whole different style to adapt to when Junior comes in ,same with Rebic and Giroud, Ibra could even sub. for Krunic. Being unpredictable is our strength. Be nice if Kessie scores ! Regardless, Pioli got us here. Forza Milano
