Pioli discusses ‘wonderful’ Scudetto win but highlights: “We know how hard it was”

By Isak Möller -

During today’s training session at Milanello, which is the first day of the 2022/23 pre-season, Stefano Pioli had some time over to speak to the club’s official channel. The manager, as expected, is very optimistic.

Milan surprised everyone with their Scudetto win this past season and heading into the next one, they won’t be the underdogs anymore. The goal is to defend the title and Pioli has a lot of work ahead of him.

Speaking to MilanTV, as cited by MilanNews, Pioli shared his initial thoughts on the upcoming season. He shared some details on the work that needs to be done ahead of the start of the season on August 13.

On the summer…

“It was a wonderful summer, I enjoyed it with family, friends and Milan fans. It was very nice, but now the season is restarting with great enthusiasm. It was an exciting summer, but it must be just as good as what we start doing today.”

On the team…

“I would say to wait above all for the fact that we are not yet complete. The important thing is to come back here, see each other again and work together to recreate that magic that was there last season. It will have to be the same path, but for certain sensations, it will be right to wait for the rest of the group.”

On his players…

“It’s also easier to stay in touch, we were very close. We continued to celebrate even from afar. It was great to win but we know how hard it was to do it. It will be a great job to try these emotions again.”

On the new season…

“I think it will be a particular season and the first three months will be a season in itself and very important for the season. All the teams will play for something important and the preparation will have to be at a high level.”

On the work to do…

“In October, we have been working together for three years, we know each other well, we know what we want to do and we want to be amazed. We start with the same points as our opponents but we know we have concepts and principles”

Some reinforcements on the mercato, while Divock Origi and Olivier Giroud will be at Milanello tomorrow. The players that were on international duty in June will be back a little later this month, but before the Köln friendly.
