Player Ratings: Sassuolo 2-0 AC Milan – Tomori mind-boggling; Jashari struggles

AC Milan suffered a massive blow in their Champions League pursuit as Sassuolo clinched all three points at Mapei Stadium. While many players struggled, one in particular was to blame.

Milan had the opportunity to extend the gap down to fifth place to eight points, but instead, they suffered a poor defeat against Fabio Grosso’s side. Fikayo Tomori’s red card early in the first half certainly didn’t help, but he wasn’t the only player who struggled.

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out how we decide the player ratings. From the scale to what affects the rating, we have compiled everything there.

Short version

🥇 Rabiot (5.5): Credit for working tirelessly throughout the game, trying to win the ball back and start some counter-attacks, but he also struggled a little bit with his own end-product. Or at the very least, he wasn’t particularly synced with his teammates.

👎 Tomori (2.5): I can’t even begin to think what was going through his head, because everything about the red card was just mind-boggling. The first yellow card was the result of a very late challenge, and the second was the result of an outrageous aggressiveness for a player already on a yellow. What was he thinking stopping a counter in such a cynical way?!

👔 Allegri (4.5): The rating isn’t necessarily because of the starting eleven, but rather the whole approach to the game. Honestly, what has happened? Milan look like a completely different team and there is a complete lack of ideas. That is the manager’s responsibility, especially since the entire game plan was dreadful today. The red card didn’t help, but did we look good before that? No.

Starting XI

Maignan (5.5): Perhaps he could have done more on the second, but I think it was mostly a good finish. The Frenchman also had a couple of good stops to avoid further disaster. Still, I don’t think it’s reasonable to give him a 6 here.

Tomori (2.5): I can’t even begin to think what was going through his head, because everything about the red card was just mind-boggling. The first yellow card was the result of a very late challenge, and the second was the result of an outrageous aggressiveness for a player already on a yellow. What was he thinking stopping a counter in such a cynical way?!

Gabbia (4.5): He probably should have had a penalty whistled against him after bringing down Lauriente pretty recklessly. He also mistimed a cross heavily in the first half which nearly resulted in a goal. Not to mention that he wasn’t good enough on the second, allowing Thorstvedt to play it without any pressure INSIDE the box.

Pavlovic (5.5): Like his defensive teammates, the positioning was far from great this afternoon but he did have a crucial block right after the first goals to deny a second. Often got forward as well, but didn’t exactly have much success on the ball.

Saelemaekers (5.5): It was by no means his best performance with Milan, but a few things rescue him from a really poor rating here. He had a few good moments in attack, and also defended well after the red card (one situation with Lauriente when he put his foot down).

Fofana (5): The Frenchman struggled to find the right passes today and didn’t have any success when he tried to take matters into his own hands. Not absolutely terrible, just far from good enough.

Jashari (4.5): At the end of the day, it was his mistake that led to the first goal. Not just because he lost the ball in a dangerous position, but also because all of his teammates ended up out of position as a result of it. The referee also did the right thing letting play go on. Some okay moments here and there, but all things considered, it was a very poor one from him today.

Rabiot (5.5): Credit for working tirelessly throughout the game, trying to win the ball back and start some counter-attacks, but he also struggled a little bit with his own end-product. Or at the very least, he wasn’t particularly synced with his teammates.

Estupinan (5): Plenty of misplaced passes from him tonight and a defensive performance that, well, left some things to be desired. I will say that he wasn’t 100% at fault on Berardi’s goal, because that was more so a result of everyone else also being out of position, but he definitely could have done better in other moments.

Nkunku (5): He was taken off at half-time as Allegri wanted to shift the balance after the red card. Red card or not, however, it was right to take him off as he barely added anything to the game. One good run into the box and a potential penalty, but nothing more than that.

Leao (4.5): The No.10 missed a big chance, and I mean a big chance, in the first half after picking up the ball in the final third. Considering how close he was to the goal there, he simply had to hit the target. Apart from that, he was also rather unsuccessful with his other moments on the ball.

Substitutes

Athekame (5.5): A decent injection of energy, it has to be said, but the end-product also wasn’t brilliant from him.

Gimenez (5.5): Nearly got on the end of a cross that could have been dangerous, so he clearly added some type of box presence. Still, not good enough, even if it was probably a result of how the game was at the time.

Loftus-Cheek (5.5): Same as Gimenez, and also Pulisic below, there were glimpses of some good intentions but at the end of the day, he didn’t really contribute much. Also booked for diving.

Pulisic (5.5): One good run and pass, I would say, but the rest was a bunch of out-of-sync plays and a general fight to get involved in the game.

Ricci (5.5): It was a chance to show that he should start ahead of Jashari next time out, but even though the Swiss international was really poor, the Italian didn’t really do that, which is an achievement in itself.

The manager

Allegri (4.5): The rating isn’t necessarily because of the starting eleven, but rather the whole approach to the game. Honestly, what has happened? Milan look like a completely different team and there is a complete lack of ideas. That is the manager’s responsibility, especially since the entire game plan was dreadful today. The red card didn’t help, but did we look good before that? No.

  1. Saelemaekers (5.5): HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH. HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA, HAHAHAHAHAHA. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Dude was a -1 player when defending. How many times did someone else have to take his player and cover for him? Even Thorstvedt ran past him with ease, not even talking about their wingers. He gets 5.5. At the same time Pavlovic that was 100 times better than him today gets the same rating. Amazing. Saelemakers is the favourite of Sempre Milan, he can’t get a bad rating no matter how sh*t he is. He deserved a 4 today. 2nd worse player of Milan since Tomori got an early second yellow.

    1. What’s with all these over the top reactions to ratings around here? Are you under the impression that the management is reading them and is basing their transfer strategy on it? 😂

I’m willing to agree Alexis was among the somewhat decent players today or at least deserves some leeway, considering he basically played for 20 minutes at Tomori’s position. Also, he was among the more involved players in the attacking third before the red card.

      1. Are you under the impression that not reading what I wrote and writing a “witty” comment about some transfer strategy and someone reading a an English fan website of an Italian club is smart? Ok.

Regarding Saelemakers, give him as much leeway as you want, he’s an average wing back, and sh*t right back and sh*t winger. That is why he can only play as a wing back.

    2. Alright, we already know you have aome personal problems with Saelemaekers. But please try to be a bit objective.

      1. Saelameker was actually crap, the right side was taken apart Tomori was coming to cover all the time, he wasn’t anywhere defensively, even the attack end product is zero

      1. Different people different views. To me he was one of the more important and constant ones the whole season.

  2. Masterclass by the DT. When plan A hasn’t worked in months let’s repackage and deploy plan A again. The boys look like robots out there starved of the ability to express themselves, the essence of what makes football beautiful.

    1. “The boys look like robots out there starved of the ability to express themselves, the essence of what makes football beautiful.“

This right here is the truth I have been saying since the beginning of the season. Allegri is starving these players.

      1. I find it amusing that people keep thinking things will get better next season when players A, B and C come in. If Allegri is still here, what top (or even mid) level player will want to come play in this system? The attack is a joke. The defense will be overwhelmed throughout the game and will have to defend twice as hard as a functional team.

When you are struggling to maintain top 4 and go into half down a goal, you simply cannot go down to 1 striker, leaving only someone clearly not back to 100%, playing out of position and has repeatedly stated that he is not comfortable as a 9. That screamed of accepting defeat and hoping to play for goal differential. When the coach clearly has no ambition, how can you expect the players to have any?

    2. The problem is that there is a realistic chance that they will express themselves in the from of an 8th place if we let them.

  3. 5 days ago i wrote Ricci and Jashari cant be in first team.

Only Ruben Loftus could be used.

Result would be at least draw.

Now we watch Milan losing UCL. Sacking Alegri and even Europe league is in question.

    Well done.

    1. One win is probably enough for a UCL place because Como have tanked, but It would be a mistake to continue with Allegri.

      1. The major problem of Milan is allegri . His playing style is not understandable not defensive not offensive . I don’t understand why milan choosen his for Milan manager . We want to see new best coach like Jergen Clopp (former Liverpool coach) , pochetino (USA coach )or xavi (former Barcelona coach)

  4. Its amazing how this team went unbeaten for what, almost 25 games? What has happened to this team because at least at first I can put up with allegris boring style while winning, but losing watching this is atrocious. Leao needs to leave, no such thing as an attacking threat on this team whether to blame the players or allegri. Champions league is slightly at risk and if they fail, blow it all up once more. If they do make it, I’ll give allegri another season with players of his choice but he has to change man.

    1. Allegri won’t change. Lots of big name coaches will become available in the summer. It would be the perfect time to move on.

    2. Unbeaten with a ton of ties and great game saving Mike saves. I always thought the streak was over rated as a few goals here and there and it’s a different narrative. I also sense the team has had enough of Allegri. They can see how he stifles play. Uberhulk is right, but they are not going to move on from Allegri. If the somehow ACM gets a CL spot, they’ll give him what he wants and this play will continue. The problem is if you build a team the way Allegri wants, you’re stuck with if for years.

    3. Unbeaten for 25 games. More than half of those we draws. Ugly and lucky draws. I agree. Leao needs to leave but not because he hasn’t scored in a while or has been horrible for most of the season because thats because of allegri playing him out of position. He needs to leave because even in his natural position he never tracks back or put pressure on the opponent. In today’s game that is unacceptable. I think it was one of PSG players that recently said that if any of players doesn’t put pressure on the opponent for 20 secs or whatever would automatically lose the starting spot.

  5. Disgraceful on the part of players and Milan coach. Send them ALL packing in Serie B. Why is the club paying millions of Euro to such players?
Leave them all on the bench.
No wonder there is an “Inchiesta” going on!!!!!!

  6. What more can I say….

It’s a shit show and it’s been a shit show for a long time now, the players are clueless on the ball, players are doing too much on the ball (Saelemakers and Rabiot are culprits), there are always the easy passes to make, but for some odd reasons, these players always opt to hold on to the ball too long or make the most insane pass choice and loose the ball. It’s bizzare to watch.

Leao has mentally checked out, he can’t put together a simple dribble, he can’t cross, he cannot pass, it’s painful to watch. Best for all will be for him to move to another team and maybe rediscover his spark, I honestly feel pity for him.

We have a manager instead of a coach, there is no playing plan to this team, too many players lacking zeal because they know they’d always play and mostly start (Tomori and Saelemakers are examples) so no need to put in more effort.

These players are victims of a broken system and they are wasting fans resources.

  7. Another awful, pathetic, embarrassing display.
Forget about meeting with Allegri to plan the mercato or any future with him. They should meet with him to get him fired today before he jeopardy Milan present and UCL qualifications.
1 goal scored in the last 5 games.
Scoreless in 5 of the last 7 games.
Juventus will get on even points, while Roma will be only 3 points behind and Come 5 points behind.
Milan plays horrendous football and on the top of that doesn’t get results.
Milan this season has only 10 more points in serie A than Milan of last season, while playing once a week wince the end of November, when last season Milan played almost the entirety of the season in multiple competitions.
    Get him out

    1. Maybe missing out on UCL is the blessing in disguise we need? I mean, the other option is sticking with Allegri for the 2 remaining years and who the f*** want to see that? No one!

      1. Maybe under a different management, but with this current one, we’ll get a coach that will accept a measly wage, we will have an abysmal budget for the summer, yet another overhaul with mostly mediocre players that won’t solve the problems we have but will create new problems and no system as a reference point.
But hey at least our finances are good.

        1. Agree. Finances are still good because we keep selling our good players. What happens when there is no more good players to sell ?!!!

  8. Leao lovers where are you? Cause our golden boy with generational talent thats is better then Yamal really had a good game today as well as the rest of the season right?
Definitly they have to build a team around him in the summer

  9. The attacking game can be summed up as always taking a touch.

We were slow and didn’t know where the next man was supposed to be. After three passes all those extra touches gave Sassuolo plenty of time to get back in shape.

Sassuolo on the other hand opened us up with quick one touch passing that is clearly practiced. They knew where the space and their teammate would be. We are lucky it wasn’t 4-0

    That is now 3-0, 0-0 and 2-0.

Leao and Pulisic are not trash. We are not scoring because we are not feeding the attackers.

Too late to make any meaningful change to the system. It’s Ride or die.

        1. A goal to even the game at 1-1 wouldn’t have changed anything?
I guess scoring goals change nothing in football

  10. I only watched up until to ten minutes after when Tomori was red carded but I do actually think that we was starting to play a bit better after the tenth minute and then it all went down sh1t creek again due to the English players foolishness.
Either way shame on them and I don’t actually recall such horrible ratings all around here on SempreMilan previously.

  11. It’s apparent even in the body language, the players think top 4 is a given. What a poor reaction to losing the non-existent title race, you need to be more professional than that. We keep thrashing money on players who are not fit for this club for various reasons. We arguably have the second worst transfer philosophy only behind RedBird’s good time buddies Chelsea. Take Modric away from the team and it’s a disaster. Take Rabiot away from the team and it’s a disaster. Pulisic having a bad few months = non-existent attack. Jashari, Nkunku, Ricci and Estupinan for nearly 150 mil, what a beautiful disaster. None of them ever steps up when the team needs them. Most Sassuolo players looked better than them and what’s even more worrying is that they were bad even in the fall when the team actually performed decently.

    1. No, I think they are fed up with Allegri ball and it’s hard to motivate them. I think they dread playing. Why do you continue with Leão as a 9? Move home behind either Gimenez or Fulkrug.

      1. Like they were fed up with Fonseca and Conceicao or how they lost motivation during Pioli’s last season? What even motivates them if all of this is true, considering these are four completely different coaches in terms of football philosophy? Are Leao and Pulisic deliberately missing sitters, because they hate “Allegri ball”?

  12. This site is about as bad as the squad has been the second half of the season. The red was in the first quarter of the match…

Makes me wonder if you even watch the games and really question the ratings process.

Hopefully the Pulisic-Manchester chatter is real… this manager and squad don’t deserve him after all he has done for the side over the past several seasons.

      1. If ACM make CL and Allegri leaves I hope he stays. Otherwise, he needs to leave. Allegri ball is dreadful for any attacker.

  13. Predictable to be honest – they are very similar to Udinese and they sucker punched us in exactly the same way!

No shots on target against Sassuolo 😔. 4 points and 1 goal in the past 5 games is hard to sugar coat.

On Jashari – yes he was poor on the first goal and then got caught in possession a couple of times – but when was the last time he played (this what happens when you don’t need to rotate for Europe)? He was probably our most affective player in the second half (not hard, but still…), we should have left him on! It’s not like this was simply giving Modric a rest – someone has to fill that spot for 3 vital games and he is the best creative option.

No point dwelling – we got smashed today, forget it and on to the next one we go!

  14. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Tomori is a liability, he is way past his expiration date. A depth player at best otherwise sell if possible. A sad loss indeed, we are so toothless it is not funny anymore.

  15. What a horror show. Well, it’s actually like a horror series, with 3 long seasons. I’m not even gonna bring up tomorri (disaster). Jashari lost and nervous, awful. Hell, the whole team was a disaster. So was that dinosaur of Allegri. Sorry to all of you that defend him still. But how can any coach not utilize their best players in their natural position? Both leao and pulisic have been wasted this season, by playing up front as strikers. Puli hasn’t scored for 4 months. Leao has been horrible too. 1 trick pony he is. As a striker he wouldn’t even play in seria b and yet allegri still plays the same formation. It kind of worked in the first half of the season since we got the points but not the performances. But in the second part of the season a change was and is needed. Again we can blame any player and the coach all we want but at the end of the day it is the management that buys those players and appoints a coach. These managers have no clear vision of how to build a team. When we won the scudetto we had a young talented team that was put together with clear vision and saw what piece of the puzzle was missing in order to have a fluid team, a team with identity. These bankers don’t have that skill. They have been spending but without a purpose. A radical change needed at the top, starting with furlani. A modern coach is needed, not this dinosaur. Smart buys in the merkato also needed. Enough of these expensive buys that offer nothing. (Estupitian, jashari, nkuku etc.)

    1. “A modern coach is needed, not this dinosaur.”

This would be such a RedBird slogan to please (translation – lie) the fans, leading to our own Rosenior, bringing us back to the place in the standing before the “dinosaur” arrived.

      1. Come on man. You defend him like he just came from many years of winning every trophy that there is with Real Madrid, Liverpool, city or something. His last job was at juve where his last 2 seasons were horrible and juve fans had enough of him. A bunch of grinding draws and extremely ugly boring games. That style of play has long gone buddy, it was successful for a while, (made mourinho famous) buts it’s long gone now.

      2. Literally every player has gotten regressed this season. Even when we win we squeak it out never taking control of the game. Allegri has to go

  16. Jashari is a true bad charm for this team. 15 game involvements ended up in loss of points in 10 of them.

    Losses: 7
    Draws: 3
    Wins: 5

Out of 8 Milan losses this season, he had a hand in 7 lost matches. Just dreadful. Offload this dude to Juventus asap.

On another note, Pavlovic is a better striker than Giminez will ever be.

  17. I watch now on LiveScore at Serie A standings , I was selected “form” option. In form standings we are on 18th spot… AS Roma are 3rd. With this trend we are in big danger for CL spot with just 3 points between us.

  18. Fotmob had 13 interceptions by Sassuolo vs just 1 for us. That tracks with watching the game where it seemed like players were more interested in jogging back into shape than reading the action and looking to make a play on the ball (particularly in the middle third of the pitch).

  19. This team is so ugly to watch. I can’t even see how we can create a goal whenever I’m watching our game. Players lack ideas and they’re more interested in staying in position than actually creating spaces for fluid football to happen. That’s totally on Allegri ball. He tells them to stay in shape and stay tight at the back. I can’t take this tactical nonsense again next season plsss.

  20. My rating post disappeared, with software failure. The usual “you are posting too fast” when I wasn’t, then upon waiting and hitting post again, the whole thing disappeared.

I’m not in the mood of rewriting.

I’ll just say, Pavlovic 6, my only passing grade. Rabiot and Maignan 5.5. All the others between 2 (Tomori) and 5, including all subs. Allegri, 4. Managers, zero.

UCL spot at risk. The team overachieved in the first half of the season, thanks to Rabiot and Modric. Now this mediocre, poorly built team is regressing to the mean, and collapsing.

Milan needs so many fixes, that it won’t happen. I predict Banter Years 2.0

    1. RedBird’s reign so far has already been a mini-banter era. 5th, 2nd and 8th place, with a risk of another 5th this season.

    2. “The team overachieved in the first half of the season, thanks to Rabiot and Modric. ”

Let’s not forget Pulisic who even scored 2 goals while having fever the same day. He was crucial for the first 2 months of the season. But yeah, it was ages ago… 🤦‍♂️

      1. At point let’s face reality, not you telling us how a player that has not scored since December is trying, let us collectively address the root cause of the failing attack, there is no link up play, the team is poorly built, loads of mediocre players, the midfield is zero, the wings are disaster, how will the attack function, this is not to excuse Leao’s miss

      2. Correct. Puli was great in the first half of the season, then collapsed. The whole team collapsed; arguably Puli collapsed even more, given that he started from a higher place.

  21. I swear it seems that Nzola plays vs Milan once a month. He has to be playing vs Milan with 2 different teams every season. Id like him at Milan. Works hard.

  22. We went from a team that seems able to beat anyone (albeit in a ugly way) in september-october, to a team that seem unable to beat anyone. Forget small teams, right now any team, big, mid-table or relegation level can get points against us. Allegri is too predictable and every team knows what to do against us.
1 win (against Hellas Verona), 1 draw & 3 losses during the last 5 games and only 1 goal scored.
Whoever is going to utter points of positivity, please keep that to yourself, the ship is literally sinking right now.
Actually, it might be good if we miss the UCL again, because I don’t think I’d like to see us against PSG, Bayern or heck even Bodø/Glimt.
Maignan couldn’t do anything about the first goal, but was against beaten on the near post.
I don’t understand how Estupiñán played more than 1 game in the EPL.
The defense was a disaster, especially Tomori who was amateur level today.
Saelemakers was the best in the rear back, which speaks how bad the defense was giving that he was very bad himself.
Jashari looked amateur level. No wonders Modrić played all the games so far. Fofana was Fofana and Rabiot wasn’t good today.
Aside from the penalty claim, Nkunku was invisible, again.
Leão’s current level is an insult to professional football, all mistakes, nothing good.
I won’t comment on the players that came in in the second half, since if felt that we were already out of the game.
The starting XI was bad & the subs were bad.
(seriously something needs to be done about comments dissapearing and “commenting too fast” it’s really annoying and doesn’t make sense)

    1. Not qualifying for CL would give the clowns in the management further excuse to buy more mediocre players and/or sell the few good ones we have. It was never about beating Bayern or something, it’s about Italian football’s desperate economical situation that basically demands CL revenue to even have faint hope of building something.

      1. I was purposefully exagerating to highlight how bad we are.
In addition to what you mentioned, no UCL probably also means Leão, Pulišić might ask leave, and Modrić might not renew.

        1. They might ask to leave without UCL?
Regardless of UCL or not one of the 2 if not both should be sold.
Another chance where Leao is incapable of putting the ball at least on target

          1. The bigger problem is not who is going to leave, but who is going to come instead.
Yes, Leão and Pulišić have been horrendous, but do you trust the management to bring us good forwards ?

        2. I have more trust in management signing someone that can match Leao contributions than Leao ever being a player that you can depend on.
They can get Lauirente for around 20 mil, pay him a 3rd of Leao salary who will give you the same production

        3. “no UCL probably also means Leão, Pulišić might ask leave”

Oh they’re DEFINITELY NOT staying if Allegri stays!!! I’ve never been more sure about anything in my life. 😂

  23. The only positive here is that at least some fans will begin to respect experience like Modrich, Rabiot,Loftus cheek after seeing their favorite player Jashari with no experience

  24. Honestly the only players deserving this shirt are Maignan Pavlović Gabbia Modric and Puli . Rest gtfo !

  25. We have maignan, bartesaghi, gabbia, pavlovic, rabiot, fofana and modric, athekame,de winter, camarda all others sell soon if posible or we will be 10 next season. All others not good for play here.
Also our americans, tare and furlani bring this club to the small club now.Somethimes i think they Inter or Juve owner and destfoy us with reason.

  26. Somewhere in EPL every Milan fan’s most hated player, Okafor has scored 9 goals in the league with less experienced players than Milan has. We let him go after Fonseca recognised he gave more than Theo and Leao could ever give us and we blamed Fonseca for calling out the lazy players we had.
Our fans are very inpatient. We pushed for Allegri to fix our defense forgetting that our offense would suffer under his tactics. We were focused on the wrong problem. We need a modern coach not this old head. If we hire a modern coach, we need to be patient with them to weed out the lazy players we have.
We can blame management all we want but this team should achieve more than the past 4-5 season teams have achieved. And they should be playing better than Allegri have them playing. Pls fire Allegri and get a Coach.

    1. Leeds United in general is the anti-Milan. The coach was horrible and about to be fired. He went into half against ManU, analyzed his team and changed the shape. They have moved out of relegation and are closer to 8 than to relegation now. What a concept, a manager changing his stubborn ways to fit the personnel.

    2. Fonseca left us in the bottom half of the table, what patience are you talking about? We are not Brighton. Also, I don’t recall him being a big fan of Okafor who left in the winter window for Napoli precisely because he wasn’t getting playing time.

      1. We were not bottom half of the table. We were 8th position on the table since you don’t know what bottom half of the table means.
Also, he was fired in December while Okafor went to Napoli in January window when Conceicao was playing favorites with Leao and Theo. Get your facts right. After the half time incident, I expected the management to support the coach and punish those players but most fans here supported the players over the coach claiming some players are bigger than some coaches. Smh.

        1. The facts are:
          1) Fonseca hasn’t ever achieved success with an ambitious, let alone big team. He wasn’t getting results and lost the locker room from early on (Leao and Theo were at fault with their childish behavior, but that’s where great coaches like Ancelotti earn their salaries).
          2) Okafor was at best a rotation player under Fonseca who caved under pressure and started relying on Leao and Theo again after the Lazio debacle in August. It has nothing to do with Coneicao who basically arrived at the same time Okafor left. Your point makes no chronological sense. Here are Okafor’s stats for 2024/2025:

          3) I don’t know what group of people you’re referring to, but I can’t remember Milan fans “hating” on Okafor. He is a decent player who obviously isn’t cut for bigger teams than Salzburg and Leeds. He went to a scudetto wining Napoli after they sold Kvara (Okafor’s position) and played even less, compared to Milan. Was Conte also part of the conspiracy and favoritism part?

The fact that you prefer senseless pseudo-attacking football and 8th position to actual success is entirely your issue, it has nothing to do with objectivity and Milan’s goals.
          2) Okafor was at best a rotation player under Fonseca who caved under pressure and started relying on Leao and Theo again after the Lazio debacle in August. It has nothing to do with Coneicao who basically arrived at the same time Okafor left. Your point makes no chronological sense.

  27. Another masterpiece by Allegri. I hope he isn’t Milan coach next season because if he is, I won’t be watching any games. The way he sets up the team is simply unwatchable. Tomori has no brain, he needs to be sold along with half the team. I knew right away when he got his yellow that red was coming and I think everyone else also knew, except Allegri. If I was the coach, I would have removed him right after his first yellow.

Jashari was pretty bad today but to be honest, how can he be any better when he isn’t playing regularly and in a system that most players struggle? Not to add that he had a very serious injury and lacks confidence now. How is it that most of these players play good before they come to Milan? When you force attacking players to play defense, losing is the result. Pulisic isn’t a bad player but looks like total shit under Allegri.

If Milan makes it to champions league somehow, we absolutely need a new coach and new players – but if Allegri stays, new players won’t help because he will play them out of position and will make attackers play defense. Look at Como, their players aside from Paz, aren’t really all that great but they play beautiful attacking futbol which is fun to watch. Milan simply can’t afford to keep Allegri and waste another season.

  28. “Milan look like a completely different team and there is a complete lack of ideas.”

LOL. Status quo since the day Pulisic got injured last year.

Not really sure think about Jashari… Could be better to let him be on the bench until pre-season and see if he can improve then. He hasn’t improved at all. Yeah, I know he hasn’t had any minutes but still. Ricci was garbage, Jashari was garbage, Modric is out? Solution? I honestly don’t know.

Tomori can pack his bags already. That 2nd card was beyond insane. Absolutely horrible and amateurish. He was practically begging for it.

  29. Sell all but three players, and rebuild with young players around Rabiot, Pulisic, and Maignan. And bring Modric back for one more season.

    This is ridiculous and embarrassing.

  30. A team of two faces…they are seriouy at risk of dismantling everything that was achieved in the 1st half of the season. At this rate I’d rather much we sell Fofana and keep RLC…Cheek is far more capable of carrying the ball into the final 3rd than one of our most used midfielders. What concerns me is the lack of conviction from quite a number of our players (Fofana, Ricci, Estu, TOMORI, Nkunku, nearly the whole damn team). And UCL games are waiting if we can get there. Zero shots on goal spells big trouble at this level…I said it before we need to learn to press, we need to be more aggressive, we need to impose ourselves on the opposition or else teams will just have their way with us. Shocking that such a glaring weakness has never been addressed at this stage of the season. Nervous times, we are keeping the faith though and hopefully they will get the right kind of reinforcement if we are expected to participate next season.

  31. I missed the match today and by the sounds of it, Jashari did not do very well? Allegri must be done with Gimenez, this seemed a perfect match to give him a start. Particularly since everyone else seems to be mis-firing?? Milan has got to get at least 4 pts from their last 3 games.

  32. It’s about time we see Ricci in front of the defense where he played for Torino. Maybe have Jashari replace Fofana or something, he likes to go forward, but the problem is he loses the ball and we have nobody behind to cover. Ricci is at least the master of safe backpassing and is also better physically than Jashari which would prove useful when he has to stop attacks. We tried this, I believe, vs Fiorentina only to completely abandon it once Modric returned.

    1. I don’t know, man. Ricci doesn’t particularly look great at any one thing do far and he isn’t new to the league.

      1. I agree, but we barely see him at Modric’s place. It’s all in theory, sure, but to me he looks more suited for this position whereas Jashari should have the creative license to attack more often, like Fofana. Yesterday’s first goal was a classic example of an attacking minded midfielder having to do a defensive intervention that he isn’t physically or tactically prepared for (it often happened with Bennacer when Kessied wasn’t around to cover). With all due respect to the argument that he may have played DM for Club Brugge, it’s just not the same. Like I said, this is merely a tactical observation, based on what we know and have seen from these two players’ characteristics. What they do on the pitch later on, is a whole another story. However, the ground work should be laid, especially since Modric won’t be able to return for any of the three remaining games.

  33. It’s Jashari’s first season here so I won’t hold a grudge against him. Remember Kessie’s first season? Or Tonali’s? Patience.

I’m worried about the lack of any motivation or hunger from the players. It’s just bland. Sassuolo looked like CL contenders against us. That on top of players being played out of position.

    1. 100% agree. Not only his first season in a different leauge, but coming off an injury like that plus hasn’t played a in a long time takes a toll. He may turn out to be good or he may be another bust. We don’t know yet. Coaches should know, at least the good ones.

    2. Agreed. Jashari definitely needs to be loaned out for a season especially if Modric comes back next season. He needs more consistent minutes – looks nervous and shaky so far. Still a young gun. Neither him nor Ricci offer anything as a regista.

  34. A few thoughts
    1. I wrote them real negative things and this website for s9me reason reset before I could post and erased everything I wrote…..but it’s the same as everyone else has written…just n awful game, the game plan, the lineup, the execution…all were so bad. So instead odd rewriting all of my venom here is everything I could think of that is even remotely positive.
    2. Pavlovic cared. I’m not sure I can say that about anyone else
    3. Gimenez played better than Fullkrug has been playing. Which doesn’t say much but at least there is that over the next few games
    4. I thought RLC was decent. It is weird he never has ever been known for his defense, but he definitely brings a presence on the field.
    5. Why is it that all the Milan attackers who are scoring all play for teams not named Milan (Okafor, Jovic, Tammy, Chuk). Does anyone really doubt what will happen if Leao or Pulisic are shipped off?
    5. I got nothing else. This game was miserable.

  35. The cloak has fallen and the team from last year has revealed itself to have never left. I don’t think a revolution is accurate because the team we had that finished 1st and then 2nd consistently, went to the champions league semi final, that team is gone. So it’s more like filling a void rather than a revolution. You’re not replacing anything cuz there’s nothing to replace. Lifeless, pointless, no drive. This is a team that finishes mid table every year. The first half of the season feels like a lifetime ago. Where is that team? That falls on Allegri as well as the players. I don’t think ANYTHING is guaranteed for next year, including Allegri AND Tare. The only thing I can guarantee, is that Ibra and Furlani will be there next year. I don’t recognize this as a Milan team, I don’t know what this is, but it isn’t Milan. We’ve been uncompetitive since 2012 and we’re still 2nd in champions league trophies. We’re still only behind Inter by one (well now 2) Scudetti. That shows how elite Milan WAS and how bad they have been since. It’s a cliff not a hill in terms of drop off. This club is officially in emergency mode. If they go even a few seasons more at this level there will be no coming back from it for this ownership. They will have to sell the club at a loss. This team playing in a stadium like San Siro and in what will be a state of the art stadium in the future will only make this terrible football look even worse. But you want to charge an arm and a leg for tickets? Please…right now, we are at a crossroads. The signings over the past 3-5 years most have been failures, the youth system is a disaster. If the club holds back at all during the summer, Tare and Allegri will be gone. At this rate, we’ll finish bottom of the table in champions league. What’s the point of even qualifying at this stage? It’s hard to be optimistic right now. The whole project looks done, the flame has gone out.

    1. We had theo last season, the one that ruin our chance when we most needed, now there is tomori,.. too much mediocre player on this team….

    2. Well written. However, I think even red bird will one day learn ( the hard way) how football clubs in Europe run. Eventually, he will get tired of bleeding money and trophy less and will either fire this damaging management or sell. Furlani and company are wasting it.

  36. Should ban Tomori for the rest of the season.
    De Winter-Gabbia-Pavlovic at the back
Barthesaghi and Saelemakers/Athekame on the wings
Rabiot-Fofana-RLC? Or Rabiot-Jashari-RLC? Or Rabiot-Ricci-Fofana? I have no clue Leao and ? Up top.

    1. What did Tomori do that you hadn’t seen him do before? Overly aggressive tackling? no way, we’ve never seen him do that. These are the CB’s Max is working with.

  37. I dont understand the fascination of making it to the champions league when your team is not even good enough to make it out of the group stage. Whats the point in continuing this struggle year after year? It would be wiser to rebuild with younger players and organically make it to the champions league when you are actually good enough to compete.

  38. The problem is not only at the players, but also on Allegri.

Look what we played all this season, very bad, no pattern, just get the ball, and run forward, always like that.

Give Allegri to National team, and go get a worldclass coach.

  39. I think what many don’t seem to grasp is that Max has massively over-performed with this team so far and Milan is just now falling back down to about expectation. This isn’t a balanced team in the least.

Players are worn out. No real rotation. Our bench despite how much it costs (Jashari, Nkunku, Gimenez) offers zero quality. I can see why Max hesitates to rotate unless he is forced. Rabiot misses a game, we collapse. Modric misses a game, we collapse. Thank God Mike has been solid. What other guarantees on this team do we have?

We can either attack more and end up like last few seasons. Or we can focus on defending and not losing like what Max is doing and clinch CL. If there’s such a thing as “sad by design” then that’s what this season is.

Hope Furlani, Ibra and Moncada enjoy what they see.

    1. Completely agreed. As for Ibra, I’m not sure he even watches the games anymore, definitely not all of them.
Also, I would add Gabbia and Pavolovic to the list of players who mostly haven’t disappointed even during these last couple of months. Allegri’s work with them is underrated. Look no further than last season if you’re seeking evidence as to why that is.

  40. I think ALLEGRI is not that bad the way some people paint him. Although sometimes he can be rigid. One thing i would blame him for about yesterday’s game is that he should have instructed our defenders to be vary wary of Beradi because he scores against us many times. Also, this is a match Beradi would want to market himself. As i saw his name in the line up yesterday something told me he would score and he did !

  41. One salient point all of us are missing is that the major problem of this team is our owner. Milan is not a club where you come and do buying and selling of players to make profit. Buying cheap players, doing trial and error method of buying players hoping to develop into big players, chasing unrealistic goals and lack of technical knowledge about football and about Milan itself has been our undoing’s.
The pressure of playing for Milan is enormous cos it comes with lots of expectation and responsibility.
Its now becoming embarrassing that every year, we talk about project and at same time we talk about overalling. This can be likened to a situation where one use a full year to build a house and at the end of the year you demolish it. This clearly shows that our owners are incompetent.

  42. Other than Tomori, no one deserves below a 6, with the possible exceptions of Jashari and Estipanan. They were struggling before Tomori was sent off, and even more afterwards.

Sorry, but even with the missed shot, Milan’s best scoring chance, even Rafa deserves a 6 rather than a 5.5.

  43. Cardinale sacking Maldini was a terrible mistake because of differences between Maldini and Furlani so both Cardinale, Furlani and Scaroni should now leave. Cardinale you have spent so many millions which you deprived Maldini and Massara offf and now after spending all these millions in past three years has not bought us a single trophy so please can you and your entourage pack your bags and go.
