Pobega wants to set ‘positive precedent’ for Milan’s academy products

Tommaso Pobega is one of the players that has made the journey from AC Milan’s youth ranks to the first team. After a few loan spells to gain more experience, the midfielder was given the chance for this season.

Pobega joined Milan as a 14-year-old and after several years of hard work, Milan saw his potential and agreed to send him out on loan. After spells at Ternana, Pordenone, Spezia and at last Torino, Stefano Pioli decided to keep him in the first team.

Speaking to Milan’s official app, as cited by MilanNews, Pobega spoke about his journey to the first team. He stated that he wants to set a positive precedent for other youngsters wanting to make the same journey, which isn’t easy.

On his city…

“Trieste is closely linked to Milan, there are several connections such as Rocco and Maldini for example. Ever since I arrived at the Rossoneri at the age of 14, I have always felt this bond between Milan and my city. It’s great.”

On his role…

“I’ve always been a midfielder. With a few managers, I have changed my position slightly, sometimes out of necessity, but in general I have always been a midfielder.”

On Milan’s academy…

“I hope to set a positive precedent for everyone. It’s a youth sector that teaches you a lot and makes you grow not only on a footballing level, but also on a human level. I have to thank Milan for this and for having hired people who are super willing to help us.”

Pobega has made 15 appearances for Milan this season and a few of them from start, growing for each day that passes. He still needs time to fully adapt to Milan’s system, but there’s no doubt that he has a lot of potential.
