Tommaso Pobega has declared that the Coppa Italia is a trophy that AC Milan are targeting as they get ready for their last 16 clash against Torino tomorrow.
It will be more than just another game for Pobega tomorrow as he will face off against his former side, having spent last season on loan at Torino under Ivan Juric before returning to his parent club and joining the midfield rotations.
The Milan Primavera product will be full of confidence after he scored his first Serie A goal for the Rossoneri during the game against Roma on Sunday, but it should have ultimately resulted in three points were it not for a late collapse that saw the away side net twice and steal a point.
Pobega was interviewed by SportMediaset on the eve of the Coppa Italia match against Torino, with his comments relayed by MilanNews and translated below.
On the Coppa Italia being a target: “It has been confirmed several times by the coach, by Maldini, by the captain that we want to be competitive in every competition and the goal is to win at least one competition, bring home a trophy to continue on the path and improve in mentality and approach to all the competitions we face.”
On the final minutes of Milan-Roma: “Rather than wondering what happened, we immediately tried to analyse it the next day, we had a video session with the coach in which we went to see what details could be improved because all in all it is it was a match we dominated, played very well, in which maybe there was some carelessness, some small mistakes that punished us and didn’t make us celebrate as would have been right for what we saw on the pitch.”
On his goal: “Let’s say I’ve been missing a goal in Serie A for a long time, it was nice to do it under the Sud. It was a really nice moment to celebrate with them, then there was some regret because it didn’t help to bring home the three points, but I have to keep working on this and try to improve too.”
On how he feels being a spare forward during a moment in which Milan have many players unavailable: “Due to my characteristics, I’m someone who always tends to accompany the action in the attacking phase. Sometimes you can get lucky, the ball can arrive right, there are a thousand variables.”
