Sergio Conceicao has been announced as the new manager of AC Milan and although fans know him well, following the links in the summer, taking a look at his managerial record again doesn’t hurt.
The 50-year-old has been out of contract since the summer, when he left Porto following the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas as the new club president. He was heavily linked with Milan in the weeks prior, but the Rossoneri opted for his compatriot Paulo Fonseca instead.
On Monday, Milan announced the appointment of Conceicao and given the aforementioned links, most Rossoneri fans know him well already. That being said, it’s still good to remind ourselves of his data, more specifically the average points per game (via Transfermarkt).
- FC Porto (2017-2024): 265W, 48D, 55L – 2.29 points per game
- FC Nantes (2016-2017): 13W, 5D, 8L- 1.69 points per game
- Vit. Guimarães (2015-2016): 8W, 10D, 13L – 1.10 points per game
- SC Braga (2014-2015): 24W, 9D, 12L – 1.80 points per game
- Coimbra (2013-2014): 13W, 11D, 15L – 1.28 points per game
- Olhanense (2012-2013): 10W, 13D, 11L – 1.26 points per game
From the above, it’s clear that most of his success was achieved at Porto and while that could be considered as a con, it should also be noted that he was there for seven years. Any manager who makes it that long, at a demanding club mind you, has done something right.
With Porto, he also managed to reach the Champions League knockout phase in five out of seven seasons, going as far as the quarter-finals twice. Adding three league titles, four cup titles and one Supercup title to that, it’s clear why Milan chose him to replace Fonseca.
Fonseca was fired to honor Pioli.
Its like being the act after the beatles or elvis. He was always meant to fail. Now its time for new music. Looks like heavymetal.
When do we announce the signing of pepe
I would take Pepe over Strahinja Pavlović any time 😂
Tough to say that success in Portugal translates to Serie A. But the man has a winner’s mindset and is tough. Had to be growing up and becoming a man. That what Milan has been missing. A lot of that Grinta.
Fonseca and Pioli had not won anything. In that sense, at least this guy has won something. Even if we think portugal isnt as challenging. I would say, he has won something and knowing a bit share of Portuguese futbol, managing porto has a lot of pressure. Porto is arguably one of the biggest names in portugal and fans demand winning every year. I know it isnt serie A or EPL but it speaks about knowing the pressures of managing a demanding club
