The precedents that shine upon Milan when it comes to cup meetings against Inter

By Oliver Fisher -

Any meeting between AC Milan and Inter is a big one that carries more meaning than the average game, but a Coppa Italia semi-final over two legs takes some beating.

As the official website report, the precedents actually shine on the red half of the city as Milan and Inter have met each other just two times in cup semi-finals before. The most recent was during the 2002-03 Champions League and the first was in the 1984-85 Coppa Italia.

On both occasions, the Rossoneri made it to the final after securing a 0-0 draw at home and a 1-1 away draw in the Champions League in May 2003, with a 2-1 away victory followed by a 1-1 home draw enough to see the team through in 1985.

In addition, Milan are unbeaten in seven of their last eight matches against Inter across the Coppa Italia, Champions League and Supercoppa Italiana (W4, D3). In percentage terms, the Rossoneri have lost 38% of their matches against the Nerazzurri in the league, while in cup competitions this figure stands at 27%.
