SM: Probable Milan XI to face Fiorentina – doubts about the double pivot

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will face Fiorentina at a sold out San Siro on Sunday afternoon hoping to tighten their grip on the Scudetto race.

As our colleagues at SempreMilan.it report, the back four in front of Mike Maignan for the game against La Viola should consist of Davide Calabria, Pierre Kalulu, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez as it has been for the past few weeks now.

In the double pivot it is hoped that Ismael Bennacer will recover in time for the game as he trained today with the group at Milanello, but if that were not the case then Franck Kessie would partner Sandro Tonali.

Olivier Giroud will be the centre-forward and behind him there should be a trident involving Rafael Leao, Brahim Diaz and Junior Messias from left to right.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Tonali, Kessie; Messias, Brahim Diaz, Leao; Giroud.

  1. I’m would really like to see a Leao, Messias, Diaz. I genuinely think Messias could do well in the middle and the wing would give Diaz more space. I mean I get it the scudetto is Milan’s to loose but still would like to see how it works.

  2. Rebic instead of Messias. I’m going to keep saying this every day, every week. I’m like a broken record. I am a Pioli supporter, but I am not happy with how few minutes Rebic is getting compared to Messias when the difference in quality of those 2 players and the impact that Rebic makes versus Messias is night and day.

  3. Rebic good with both feet but prefers his right…..he played the 10 at Eintracht, he is strong with back to goal, and good vision with his height compared to Diaz. There are a lot of dynamics with combinations of players on the pitch…having Rebic at the 10 would make Junior and Saele. more effective and allow Leao not to be marked by 2. I think Pioli is currently grasping at straws, personally I think Tonali would be a good 10, but right now is no time to be making anything that would rock the boat. Even Ibra would be good at the 10 ,he is dynamic at finding the open man when marked by two, good things tend to happen when he is on the pitch. Pioli is afraid if Rebic is out there and Giroud gets hurt ,Ibra hurt…… I am a broken record as well,Rebic need to be on the pitch, no where lazy like Leao either when he loses the ball, whict by the way led to Ibra Tonali game saving goal, he is a tough s.o.b. We need to roll the dice to win the Scudetto, we are not strong enough to dictate the game, we need to be unpredictable. And by the way I am a broken record as to our attempts at scoring with headers, waste of time, we scored last 3 or 4 past goals with our feet, keep doing that and the headers will come naturally, we forced it (headers) the last 8-10 games even though Giroud was often marked by 2 to 3 players. Forza Milano
