Probable Milan XI to face Marseille – Adli and Saelemaekers from start

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Marseille at Stade Velodrome tomorrow in their penultimate pre-season friendly. Earlier this evening, updates arrived with regards to the Rossoneri’s probable starting XI.

Stefano Pioli’s men managed to beat Wolfsberger by a convincing 5-0 last time out and will be looking for another win tomorrow. As said, it’s their penultimate game of the pre-season and thus some players will be eager to prove themselves.

As reported by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Pioli will field a rather strong starting XI tomorrow as it’s close to what we could see in the opener against Udinese next month. Olivier Giroud should be back from the first minute.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Saelemaekers, Adli, Leao; Giroud.

It’s worth keeping an extra eye on Yacine Adli, who has impressed a lot this pre-season, but also Alexis Saelemaekers. The Belgian needs to prove himself ahead of the season opener as Junior Messias is lurking, and tomorrow’s game could be decisive in that sense.

    1. I totally agree with you. We have a very good competitive team with one exception, a completely useless right attacking midfielder. Please buy Hakim Ziyech or Domenico Berardi, Asensio,…. The team will be 3x more dangerous with both strong sides of the attack than now only with Leao on the left side.

  1. Saelemaeker is teacher’s pet. He was catastrophic this year. I can’t remember his last good performance. No wonder no club would want his services… from two passes one is wrong. Hopefully, CDK will be used as RW.

  2. I have to admit, I feel a little sorry for Diaz, he looks like a completely O.K. guy who’s on loan but accepts Milan as his family and acts like one in public. He had quite enough time to adapt both after his arrival and after covid. However the more time passes his influence in the game is less and less. After the arrival of Adli and Ketealare he will become an absolute surplus.

    1. IIIIIIIIF Diaz can return to the level of last August-September, then he might have a future in Milan (or any other big club). But if he continues on this current level he’l end up in some lower division club in a couple of years.

I honestly hope he can improve (a lot).

  3. If Salamakers and Diaz want to improve, they need to change their positions. Diaz is to weak to be a mid, and Sale lack the skills to beat his opponent in one on one situations, which is a must for a winger. Maybe it would be best for them if they swap positions.

    1. @rossi I think you made a point salamaeker is more creative than Messiah. But Diaz can go elsewhere. I also see origi not delivery. I think pinamotti is better than origi

    2. Diaz is at his best when being a sub in the second 45 when the opposition is tired and he offers a “new” look. He gets pushed off the ball too easily, understandably with his small stature. As to Saele, I am not ready to give up on him yet, Pioli I have noticed has changed this year Saele’s style in the sense, his first instinct before when receiving the ball was to try and dribble past the defender which fo the most part was predictable ,but now have noticed he is immediately , or one step if that, and passing then advancing for a return pass to his dribble. Yes Zizech is better but the dynamics have changed with Adli at the 10…..we shall see…..I will admit that he missed a bunch of “gimme’s” last year from very close in, choked

  4. Salamaker is a hero, u guys are acting if to say C,D,K or ORIGI has given us anything let not be ungrateful to the guys that works tirelessly to Give us scudetto after 11yrs even if the player is not your favorite u have better way to approach it ok. Forza milan.

    1. Players working tirelessly without any impact don’t get us UCL trophies. We want a winning team. A dynasty. For those things we need wingers who deliver goals and/or assists. Saele does neither. (He’s OK when we need to secure the win and defend but when we need goals, he’s NOT the guy).

  5. Buy ndicka and pair him with tomori in CB . Kalulu can go to RB replace calabria for more ofensive. Train CDK play in RW ,he can beat his opponent if 1 vs 1 player

  6. Sometimes I think it it’s better to place Diaz somewhere else. On the right wing maybe? Where he’s not entirely on the central gravity (have to face too many opponents). He surely got the right technique and mentality, thanks to his vast experience also, to be in this Milan squad.

  7. Right wing is now what we missed since we can afford expensive wing why can’t we go for anslid anywhere I forgot the guy name but he’s Italian and playing for Bologna wearing 7 and rebic too can play that position

  8. You guys are over think or perhaps aleast try to a knowledge the good think she done at that right and to be honest he is not bad at all last season he have done alot on that right flank and he still have time to improve everyone dose in dat matter

  9. This dude is highly overrated….it is funny we got Adli for 10m and got this dude for 35m.

Put Adli in clubbrugge in one season, emhe will be worth 60m, got watch both highlights, not minding CDK plays in a weaker league

Adli is better both in dribbling, speed and composture, it will be an omen if Adli get benched of this guy….most of you have not even seen him play, dude is 15m type of player, Milan fail for the trap and overpaid, you all will it, the only different between this guy and suso is height
