QS: Super subs with a point to prove – Jovic and Okafor make their mark

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were saved by two substitutes during their win over Udinese on Saturday night, and it was two players who are still looking to carve out a leading role.

As QS (via MilanNews) report this morning, Milan’s rebirth in the league started thanks to the goals from the bench. In December it was Luka Jovic who found rhythm and also on Saturday the Serbian came on and levelled before Noah Okafor’s winner.

The two alternatives to Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao each have four goals in the league this year – one more than the Portuguese winger, who has not found the net since 23 September.

That means they can be crucial weapons for Stefano Pioli and for Milan, especially if we consider that from mid-February – with the resumption of the Europa League – matches will return to being every three days and there will be the need to be able to rotate.

Both Jovic and Okafor must have their goals clearly in mind for this second half of the season. The former is playing for a new contract given he is on a one-year contract with the club having an option to extend it.

Consistency will also be crucial for Okafor given the Swiss forward suffered two muscle injuries in a short time but when he was on the pitch he always made the difference with four goals in just 412 minutes.

  1. Glad to see Jovic making his mark now that hes comfortable, and also good to see Okafor actually on the pitch making a difference too. Giroud can’t be solely relied on with European football coming
