Rai commentator reveals what Maldini told him about De Ketelaere’s time so far

By Oliver Fisher -

A journalist has revealed that Paolo Maldini told him AC Milan are feeling very calm about Charles De Ketelaere, and they are expecting him to finally click soon.

De Ketelaere was Milan’s big splash of the summer transfer window as the management spent over €30m to sign him from Club Brugge, but the return so far has been disappointing with the Belgian amassing just one assist and zero goals.

Despite the unconvincing performances, Milan have full faith in the attacking midfielder and Stefano Pioli and Paolo Maldini have always defended him from criticism in the media, pointing to the time needed to adapt to a new country, a new league and bigger expectations.

Commentator Daniele Adani revealed during a segment on Rai Sport that he has spoken to Maldini about De Ketelaere and his development so far, with his comments relayed by MilanLive.

“Maldini told me that Charles is very strong, a respectable boy and that they believe in him. There is great trust on the part of Milan, take the examples of Tonali and Leao. He said he likes to play striker. He has incredible values, he is a boy who has just arrived at San Siro and must be accompanied,” he said.

  1. “HE LIKES TO PLAY AS A STRIKER”.
    Exactly
Every time I watched him at Brugge last season, he was always playing as a striker, but we play him as a n10 even though he isn’t that.
So either paolo and his coach signed him to play in the wrong position, or paolo signed 2 strikers this season CDK and Origi, even though we needed signings in other positions like a rw, a n10, Kessie replacement, CB with some height.
Either way they need to fix this fast.
Let the kid play up front and start getting rid of the deadwood in the squad.
Love what Giroud has done, but we can’t consider ourselves a serious club with 36 year old being our everyday starter. And that’s not a knock on Giroud at all, the guy has given Milan a lot more than most of us expected but even he probably didn’t expect to play every 3 days at agr 36.

  2. He looked better as a 9 and Milan don’t have depth at that position. This is what frustrates me about Pioli. He forces players into his tactics rather than adjust his tactics to fit the player. Pioli would rather start an exhausted Giroud over and over again than CDK in his natural position.
