Raimondo: Moncada becomes ‘Head of the Sporting Area’ at Milan – what it means

By Oliver Fisher -

It has been made official through documentation that Geoffrey Moncada now enjoys more powers and responsibilities in his role at AC Milan.

After the exits of Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara from their roles as technical and sporting director less than 48 hours after the final game of last season, there has been some doubt about the actual composition of the management.

Antonio D’Ottavio was officially hired as the sporting director, therefore replacing Massara, but who the figurehead of the hierarchy is was not known.

However, the lawyer Felice Raimondo has the answers from Milan’s registration at the Chamber of Commerce on 17 August which makes it clear that Moncada will be the head of Sporting Area at Milan.

While he does not hold the title officially, he has essentially become the technical director of the club, a position previously held by Maldini who had the final say on all deals.

In fact, this role allows Moncada to have potentially higher powers than a classic technical director and than sporting director Antonio D’Ottavio.

CEO Giorgio Furlani is still his senior though, so the Frenchman will have to carry out the tasks that will be given to him, but Moncada becomes the contact person for Milan for any sporting activity or operation.
