Raiola on Donnarumma saga: “Milan fans? They should apologise to me”

By Oliver Fisher -

Agent Mino Raiola has insisted he was right in the way he handled the Gianluigi Donnarumma saga, aiming a dig at the Milan fans.

Donnarumma seemed destined to leave the Rossoneri back in the summer of 2017 when it was revealed by Raiola that his client would not sign a new contract at the club.

PSG were strongly linked but in the end Raiola managed to reach an agreement with then-directors Massimiliano Mirabelli and Marco Fassone, with Antonio Donnarumma even signing as part of the deal.

Fans still protested about the way the situation with handled, but when nterviewed by the newspaper La Repubblica, the Dutch-Italian agent spoke about Donnarumma and addressed them.

“Milan fans? They should apologise to me: ‘Mino, you were right’. I wanted to take him away because I didn’t trust that Milan, and tell me if I wasn’t right,” he said (via MilanNews.it).

“I will be unromantic and politically incorrect, but my aim is to maximise the career of my players. I always ask myself: ‘What would I do if he were my son?'”

Now, speculation has once again turned to Donnarumma’s future, with Calciomercato.com recently reporting that the 20-year-old – despite his love for the Rossoneri – cannot put his own sporting ambitions in the background.

They stated that given Milan in their current state not have the potential to compete at high levels, another season like this will have no result other than to push Gigio out.
